America, even the world, is alive with storyteling. We are people consumed with telling, and enjoying stories.
Today's storytelling influences our lives, for better or worse, without our being aware of it. Legends, ghost stories, myths, tall tales, fairy tales, moral tales, urban legends, and ballads, are all seeded into the stories our parents told us. They hold their place in the stories we tell our children; the manner in which we talk to each other; and even in the names we choose for our buildings, streets, cities, towns, rivers, mountains, and sports teams.
Let us never entertain the idea that storyteling has ceased to be an important aspect of the world's cultures.
