2000 OLYMPICS DREAM TEAM
Come this September, the 2000 Olympics Dream Team will continue its legacy of USA dominance.
Vince Carter joins the USA Men's Senior National Team replacing Tom Gugliotta (down with an ankle injury). The other members: Ray Allen (Milwaukee Bucks); Vin Baker (Seattle SuperSonics); Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs); Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves); Tim Hardaway (Miami Heat); Grant Hill (Detroit Pistons); Allan Houston (New York Knicks); Jason Kidd (Phoenix Suns); Alonzo Mourning (Miami Heat); Gary Payton (Seattle SuperSonics); Steve Smith (Portland Trail Blazers).
Rudy Tomjanovich, Houston Rockets head coach since 1991, was selected by USA Basketball on Feb. 18, 1999, to serve as head coach of the 2000 USA Basketball Senior National Team. The coaching staff was completed with the naming of Philadelphia 76ers head coach Larry Brown, Purdue University (Ind.) coach Gene Keady and University of Kentucky head mentor Tubby Smith as assistant coaches.
The USA Basketball Men's National Team is expected to open its training camp in late August. The 2000 Summer Olympic Games are being conducted Sept. 15-Oct. 1 in Sydney, Australia. The men's basketball competition gets underway on Sept. 17.
