1982 - 2007
25 years ... totally pop, totally Bananarama!

Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward and Siobhan Fahey formed Bananarama back in 1981. The first single, "Aie A Mwana" sung entirely in Swahilli, unfortunately, stalled at #92 in the UK charts. The follow-up, "It Ain't What You Do", however, became their first proper chart hit when it got to Number 4 in 1982. Since then, Bananarama have chalked up another 24 Top 40 UK hits, including the worldwide dance-pop smashes, "Cruel Summer", "Robert de Niro's Waiting", "Venus", "I Heard a Rumour" and "Love In the First Degree". Siobhan left the group in 1988 - coinciding with the release of the girls' "Greatest Hits" package and their entry into the Guinness Book of Records as the Most Successful All-Girl Group Ever - to form Shakespear's Sister. She was replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan for Bananarama's 1989 World Tour but Jacquie, in turn, left the group in 1991, following the release of Bananarama's "Pop Life" album that year. Sara and Keren, friends since they were 4, have carried on as a duo - they released the albums "Please Yourself" in 1993, "Ultra Violet" (retitled "I Found Love" in Asia) in 1995/1996 and "Exotica" in 2000. Their ninth studio album "Drama" was released in 2005/2006 with brand new material to come in 2007! The legend lives on!

Join BananaMail, the Bananarama egroup which will put you in touch with around 300 Bananarama fans around the world! This is a portal that allows you to read posts put up by other Bananarama fans or to post messages of your own for all to read. Fantastic for meeting fellow fans, getting the latest gossip/info or to arrange for trades. Originally set up by erm, me way back in 1996 and now run (far more effeciently!) by Dave Higdon-Beeche (with a big shout-out to James Taylor for the great years between, 1998 - 2002)!

I've been a massive fan of the girls since the "WOW" album in 1987 but lack the resources to construct a web page that would do justice to their entire 25-year chart history. This web page, therefore, only takes up from 1992 when Bananarama was streamlined to a duo. Also, not being a whiz with the computer, this site is rather simple in layout and style; the focus here is really just on getting the latest information out on the net as quickly as possible. For a more extensive resource of Bananarama material, please check out any one of the other many excellent Bananarama-related sites around via the links on my Banana Bits links page.

This site would not be what it is if not for the very wonderful Pascal(s), Lee Jackson, Dave Higdon-Beeche, Philip Stuckey, ComedyClaire, Rich Almeida, Sarah Mager, James Taylor, Jason Berges, Mandy Ellis and all the great guys and gals on the Bananarama Mailing List, Bananarama Yahoo Club and BananaramaUK forum! Thanks for all the news and resources!

"You should only feel guilty for thinking of them as guilty pleasures."
