Shopping in KL

from stalls to designer shops...Pasar Malams and Suria KLCC

A unique experience, not to be missed, is the Pasar Malam, or Night Market. This is held nightly in various places all over the city. Street cart vendors sell their wares, often competing with each other over who can shout out the prices loudest. It's a fun and lively experience for those who like to bargain and get the feel of an alternative nightlife.

The most popular night market is Bangsar Baru on Saturday nights, where you'll find locals, expatriates and tourists checking out the wares. Excellent deals are available for curios, clothes, CD's and such. All in all, it's worth a visit, if only to soak in the ambiance.
(Since the locations for the markets are often changing, it's advisable to check the papers for daily listings).

At the other end of the scale, you have Suria KLCC (KL City Centre). This massive shopping mall located at the Petronas Towers has shops for all the designers you can think of, and more. Shoes, clothing, up market curios, pewter products, make up and accessories are all available here .

Other popular places for shopping are --:

  • Lot 10, Jln Sultan Ismail - clothing, by foreign and Malaysian designers, is the main reason to visit this place.
  • The Royal Selangor Pewter Factory about 10km from KL, offers beautiful products designed using pewter, an alloy of antimony, copper and tin.
  • Sungei Wang Plaza - a huge shopping centre where you can find almost anything.
