Balady - Russya

Balady is the earthy popular dance of Egypt
.
Russya's balady style is spicy and fun with a modern Egyptian influence.
The movements in balady are stronger than classical style with special movement combinations which give the dancer more freedom for self expression.
In this three hour workshop Russya will teach posture, styling, technique. and offer insights in to the artistic  aspects of the dance.

Monday 13th May 2002

Drum and Zills - Lissa and Richard

Join Lissa and Richard in an informal introduction to the art of playing zills and/or percussion. Students should bring zills or another percussion instrument.
Students will learn how to keep a rhythm with the zills while dancing.

Women Only Harem Night
A women only event for students wishing to perform, socialize and share their love of the dance. There will be a special prize for the best dressed student. A mini fashion parade and lots of special performances and group dancing.
Don't miss this opportunity to come and try belly dance, perform, lounge luxuriously, or just dress up and look gorgeous!!!!

Breaking Down the Layers - Leonie Sukan
Ever wondered how accomplished dancers put all the moves together into a seamless performance? Leonie will analyze and teach isolations building them in to one step, then putting them together with steps that compliment for sequences or making your own choreographies. Her easy explanations will suit all levels, Beginners to Advanced.

Dancing Hips-Hypnotic Drum - The Veils of Baghdad
Visualise your magical hips interpreting the exciting rhythms of a tabla solo. The workshop will move progressively between technique into the beginnings of a delightful choreography. Hints and tips on modern interpretation of dance with the drum and a style that is uniquely "The Veils of Baghdad".
You need a basic understanding of belly dance moves and something to tie around and show off your wonderful hips. Be amazed by what your body can do and be prepared to have a good giggle-having fun is what its all about! Great combo! Great fun!

Turkish Dance - Leonie Sukan

An exciting mix of Turkish Rom dance and modern groovy Turkish pop! Leonie's Turkish connections keeps her abreast of the latest dance styles and music. These workshops usually include part or full choreography.
Beginners to Advanced level.

Introductory Middle Eastern Drumming - Richard Lesze

Richard will teach basic Arabic rhythms and how they are applied in the dance, as well as elementary finger techniques for the tabla.

Hafla Party

A traditional party setting, including stunning performances and Middle Eastern music. With some special surprises- guest artists include Leonie Sukan-Sydney, Michelle Moscova and troupe -Sydney,
Canberra's own Veils of Baghdad, Rae Jemeson, Raqs fi Qamar Azraq, The Occidental Tourists, Lisa Parsons and oh yes Lissa!
Non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided.
The evening will be intimate and casual with some special surprises.
