Here's some old pictures

I've rummaged through my junk and found some pictures. I have many slides that are better pictures and they are in color, but I have no way of scanning them in.

On the left is Chief Miller? That's Olie Olson on the right. The guy in the back is Doug Booth. He was in the Auxillary gang. I joined that group somewhere down the road. I think those guys were all there in '64. That would be Bob Willet, Fat Jack Townsend, Doug and myself. Oh, by the way, that's me (the scruffy one in the middle). We were in the middle of the pacific when this picture was taken.

These guys all hung out together. I think Sully (Sullivan) was the name of the guy on the right. Pat Kelley is holding the bunk down with his elbow and Jeff Stober is the one wearing a beret. I can't quite make out the fellow in the background.

Now isn't this a cute couple? That's Olie on the left. Koivu is wearing glasses and a couple of other things, I think!.
These guys were mess cooking at the time. I spent my share of time washing dishes and setting tables too. That's Willie the cook peeking over the shoulder. Some of the other cooks at various times were Raymond, Travis and I think Diem. I might not remember everybody's names, but these guys were important people on a boat. Sometime they performed pure magic with powered stuff!

I know this isn't a very good picture, but there could be a face or two that rings a bell here. From left to right starting in the front is James (Woody) Wood,  followed by Smokowski (Smokey) or something like that. Next is Vasquez Nanacoolie. He was Hawaiian and an engineman. Farthest back and sitting is Fat Jack Townsend. Standing are Red Voight, I'm not sure and Joe Dougherty. Joe was the source of a lot of pranks and all around mischiveous humor.

And now for some of the forward torpedo room guys. On the left is Shotgun. The guy between the tubes there is Tim. Remember when the Navy got on the kick that we were all too fat and needed to go on a diet? I don't remember the name, but the fella on the right was a first class I believe, and he was 4 pounds overweight according to the Navy charts! I don't think I've ever seen anyone skinnier than him.

Disclamer: I'm sure I've mispelled and maybe even completely mis-named some of these people. If you email buckm@1st.net, any spelling or name corrections, I would be glad to make the changes. Also, if anyone objects to being included in this photo gallery, at your request I will remove the offending photo(s).
