Subfamily Aterpinae

Weevils in this subfamily are medium size. They usually have the parallel  cylindrical body. Their rostrum is medium length.

Chrysolopus spectabilis, body length 25mm 
We found this weevil feeding alone on a young Acacia tree in Karawatha Park during early simmer. This weevil has beautiful metallic green dots patterns on black. This weevil is famous in Australia natural history because it was the first scientifically described Australian insect species. More information and pictures please click on here.

White-headed Weevil

Aades griseatus, body length 12mm
We found this weevil once on Banksia leaves. We also found it on gum tree trunk in Karawatha Forest from during early summer.
  
 
Gum Tree Black Weevil

Scotasmus parvicornis, body length 15mm
We saw this black weevil a few times in Karawatha Forest during mid summer. It was usually found climbing on large gum tree trunk. More pictures can be found in this page.

Pelororhinus sp., body length 12mm
Above pictures was taken in Karawatha Forest in mid summer. The weevil was wandering on a young gum tree.

Black Brown Weevil

Aades cultratus, body length 12mm
We saw this black and brown weevil once on gum tree trunk in Karawatha Forest during mid summer. The weevil dropped onto the ground after we took the above photo.
