Today was an exciting day for much of the Crafthall.  A bluerider, Cheche, appeared on Search and left with a list of three names; apparently it's one male and one female.  I do so hope that I am amongst them!  Many people do believe that the dragonhealers have a better chance, because we have been around dragons so long, and I desperately hope that it is the truth.  I really haven't been around dragons so much as I have firelizards.  Today I got my first real healing of a firelizard.  Wanilia was speaking to me while we were in the barracks, and all of a sudden her blue blinked
between to us, screaming in pain.  She, of course, freaked out, so I got to handle it.  There was nothing wrong with the little blue, other than the fact that it had a nice, long scrape down its left side.  Thank the Golden Faranth that I always have numbweed and supplies in my trunk, even if the person I share it with always complains.  Ah, well, I suppose that all things come to good use, even if the use isn't automatically apparent.  Wanilia kissed me on the cheek afterwards, and although I think that it was a gesture of thankfulness, I still got firelizards in my stomach.  Today my younger sister, Shallie, was promoted to the Junior Apprentice rank, which is, in my opinion, the best thing that could of happened for her.  She may be young, bust she is also as quick as a whip when it comes to learning, and puts forth no apparent effort.  I wish that I could say the same for me!

The names that Cheche brought were both approved by the Weyrwoman, and the MasterDragon Healer Zabolon is supposed to inform the lucky two.  They are, indeed, a male and a female.  I now know that the kiss was, indeed, a gesture of friendship.  Wanilia has now taken up, despite the strong protests of many in the CraftHall, the Craftmaster Quelmen.  He is ten Turns her senior!  It is, in my opinion, disgusting.  Well, I wrote this only out of anger and disappointment, so more shall be written later today.

I was Searched!  Me, of all people!  I was the one male, and, as I suspected, the other is a female.  I was almost positive that it would be Wanilia, but, much to my surprise, Shallie is coming to the Weyr as a Candidate.  She is, as I've already said, a very bright girl.  She may only be fourteen Turns of age, but she would be an excellant dragonrider in any circumstance.  She should be coming to the weyr later this sevenday, for the MasterDragonHealer needs to be persuaded and concinced to let his sharp Apprentice go.  Cheche guarentees that her training will continue later, and I hope that it does, for she is too good to go to waste.  Today, I also managed to Impress a green firelizard, which was wonderful.  I Impressed one for Rohlen Hold, not Dark Moon Weyr.  The man had a few eggs that he'd gotten from Rohlen Hold, and I ended up with that one.  Naturally, I agreed.  The hatching had just begun (much to my delight), and I managed to get a green.  I am so lucky!  I hope that Shallie arrives here soon!
Oh, another wonderful thing!  The MasterDragonHealer Zabolon said that I was going to be a Journeyman soon, and he told me that he already had a runnerbeast for me, and I might as well get it.  The mare is from Rohlen Hold, and a wonderful beast!  Well, I must go now, Candidates have an awful lot of duties!

Zabolon refuses to let Shallie go just now.  He says that she needs a few more sevendays to see if she really wants to go and Impress.  I think, though, that Shallie does want to come and it is unfair of Zabolon to prevent her from leaving.  Well, today, my mare was received.  She is a beautiful gray, with three white socks, two on her hind feet and one on her left fore foot.  The mare also has a stripe, or atleast part of it.  I think that, had the stripe been a little wider, it would of been a blaze.  She has a white coronet on her right fore foot, as well.  Upon Shallie's suggestion, I have named the mare Cherish.  She may not be able to run as fast as many, but she is agile and smart.  Cherish is easily ridden bareback, and I do so love to get away from the Weyr sometimes, especially now that Irnesh has arrived...
Ah, yes, Irnesh.  My favorite brother, age fifteen.  He is like many oldtimers, biased against girls and many other things.  He was, of course, still at the cothold (he has no skill whatsoever), and was Searched, also by Cheche.  He is driving me insane, showing little respect to the female Candidates, and letting everyone in the entire Weyr know that he's my brother.  The lout!  Ah, well, I guess that Cherish and Talmar are sort of a way to get away from Irnesh, just so that I retain my sanity long enough to stand.  I have heard that only nine Candidates will be Searched, and so that means that there is an almost 100% chance that everyone will Impress, unless we see that lovely "Impressing from the Stands."

Today Irnesh Impressed a firelizard, and a beautiful little brown it was, too.  It seems to of softened him up quite a bit, which I expected; I think that was the best thing that could of happened to him.  It should help quite a bit with his attitude, and even though he still doesn't work, he's not quite as snappy, either.  I hope that Impressing a dragon will have an even better effect on him, because it would be wonderful to see the change.  Well, I must admit, I would rather see myself Impress than I would see him, but I guess that either way would be fine.  However, I think that the worst thing that could happen would be me Impressing a brown and Inresh a blue.  Ah, well, I shall write more later!

2856.03.17 (March 14th, 2001)
All of the Candidates have arrived!  There are two more boys, and that makes a total of nine Candidates.  Sveikith did request that only nine Candidates should be brought in, and I guess whenever a mother, whatever color, makes a request, the Weyr respects it!  I hope that Irnesh will do well in the hatching, it would be wonderful if we both walked off with browns.  However, since the chances of that are slim, I shall cross my fingers and hope for the best!
The Senior Queen should be rising after the clutch.  I cannot wait to see who wins!  We have a few browns and bronzes from the previous clutch trying, and I would absoloutely love to see what happens if H'tal's brown Freoth flys Yukith!  He is a small brown, true, but very speedy and quick; he's already proved himself in Threadfall.  H'tal has also proven that he's good enough to know what to do in a crisis, and might make a good Weyrleader, but who knows?
Cherish is doing fine; she's less prone to buck and kick.  Ah, yes, Shallie is coming for Yukith's clutch!  I hope that she can convince Zabolon that she really, truly, wants to go.
