Today Tarril graduated to JourneyWoman, or so I have heard in the letter that she sent with her golden firelizard.  I am ready to pound her head in for flaunting it, I have atleast half of the boys in the crafthall if they will send their letters back to Tarril.  I read several of them; they are all sickeningly sweet, and I expect that it will always be like this, with the boys, I mean.  I will always be the tomboy, and she always the perfect one.  I missed out on another firelizard clutch that was brought in.  Ah, well, who knows, maybe one day I'll be at the right place at the right time, which isn't likely for me.  I can only hope that I will Impress a firelizard one day, and whatever color it may be, I will love it.  Tarill Impressed another for her Journeywoman knots, a blue.  What I cannot understand is why mother and father have given her two firelizard eggs, one that was to either contain a gold or bronze whenever she was Apprenticed, and now the blue, while they have not sent me any.  From home, Rallie managed to send me a letter with his new flit, too.  It is a beautiful bronze, as large as many golds that I've seen.  Once again, I must ask, why does a boy of twelve Turns get a firelizard, and I don't?  I think that mother and father don't expect anything out of me at all, for a bluerider came to the CraftHall yesterday and Searched a few, whom he will be coming back for later.  I am most likely not amongst them.

Today I received a double surprise, both of which were incredibaly wonderful!  There is another suprise that I may consider wonderful, and many would chastise me for being excited about.  I shall start with the latter, though, just to get it out of my system.  Tarril's blue blinked
between yesterday, and I've heard from many that she mistreated it once she realized that the blue looked "bad" next to her queen.  I used to be jeaous of Tarril, but now I find that I am no longer.  She is a spoiled brat that will always be flaky and never worthy of the title of journeywoman.  All right then, my good news.  I shall go in the order that they happened.  First of all, I heard that many of the Junior Apprentices were being sent up to Senior Apprentice rank, and my best friend, Rewana, was promoted!  You couldn't believe how happy I was for her!  She was one of the first named, which was a relief for both of us.  However, after the first five, we were waiting for the last one, and another wonderful thing happened.  Yes, I, the Junior Apprentice Mailstra, am now a Senior Apprentice!  Is it not wonderful?  Well, I suppose that might count as my three good things, but my main one is yet to come.  The blue dragon that had come and Searched some of us a few days ago came, returning with the list of those Searched.  I was amongst them!  Rewana has been sent to another weyr, and although I am happy for her, I do miss her dearly.  I am in my new weyr now, and it suurprises me how many people cannot stand the smell of numbweed in this place.  You would of thought that they would be just a little bit more tolerant of the smell, with how often the weyrfolk use it.

You would not believe what color the mother dragon is; she is called a "Christmas" by many of the weyrfolk, and I think that they got that from something that the ancestors celebrated.  I suppose that it was a bit like a hatching feast, but then again, I wouldn't know, I am only sixteen Turns old.  There are only five eggs, and eight Candidates.  Three of us will remain standing.  I hope that I am not among them!  As an Apprentice DrgaonHealer, I do not have normal Candidate duties, and many here are jeaous of me not having to shovel firestone.  Instead I get to go around and doctor all of the weyrbrat's little green and blue firelizards that have tiny scratches.  It is so dull that I think I would rather be shoveling firestone, truth to be told!   I wonder what colors the dragonets will be whenever they hatch.  Well, I will write more later.

More wonderful news!  Tarril was Searched, arrived right before the hatching, and was the only female left after the greens Impressed.  However, the wonderfully smart little gold pranced right past her to a drudge in the stands who was there to Impress a watch wher!  A little drudge of twelve Turns beat Tarril!  I bet that she is hopping mad!

The hatching should be soon, but I have nothing to write about that is exciting, other than that the girl who Impressed the gold is alive, well, and doing wonederfully!  Another blow to Tarril!

2856.03.15 (March 12th, 2001)
The hatching hasn't happened yet- everyone is saying (Including the mother dragon) that it should be on the 20th.  I only hope that I can be patient enough to wait that long!  Every time that someone mentions "eggs" or "dragons" I act like a total fool; I need to get myself under control.  Well, though, I'm waiting for the dragon hatching- do you expect me to be calm like everyone else?

2856.03.19 (March 16th, 2001)
The hatching will be tomorrow- everyone is sure of it.  I am about to explode with excitement, and have become less snappy to everyone; the HeadSecond thinks that I'm sick, because I'm being nice.  I cannot wait 'till tomorrw!
