HISTORICALLY WRONG
LAST MINUTES OF ODA NOBUNAGA'S LIFE

in Ghost-sweeper Mikami anime movie (2002)

The Honno temple is blazing under
Akechi Mitsuhide's attack
on June 21, 1582.

Akechi stands in the hall looking for
Oda Nobunaga.
Oda only has several soldiers,
while the Akechi clan
was attacking in full force.

"I'm good at this. I'll kill that monster."
Akechi relies on his spear because
he isn't good with swords while Oda is.
And he doesn't want to get too close
to Oda Nobunaga, lest he loses.

Akechi looks on and smiles while
Mori Ranmaru fights alone
against many of his soldiers.
He hates Mori, too.
And in this movie
Akechi is the rightful hero.
So Mori must be the bad guy.

Akechi gave Oda a lecture on
how evil he (Oda) is,
for killing people in his wars.

And he said Oda has sinned
against the gods,
for destroying Mt. Hiei's monasteries.
(So where was Akechi himself
in those years?)

Akechi kills Oda Nobunaga with the spear,
while Oda is completely unarmed.

"Now I have punished this enemy of Buddha."

(Click here if you have no idea what that was about.)

If the Akechi clan needs some
Public Relations officers,
they should hire the makers of this movie.

This movie also portrays Oda Nobunaga's
pet-castle, Azuchi, as the lair of evil.
