BioFil TECHNOLOGY FOR WASTE TREATMENT

Prof. Dr. Azni bin Idris
Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering

A super biofilter is available which is capable of treating highly polluted waste generated by the industries. The product named "BioFil" successfully treats many types of industrial and sewage effluent. BioFil technology utilises the newly-invented and innovative plastic media known as "Cosmo-ball", which provides the home for bacterial growth. The Cosmo-ball is a proprietary product, which is made of recycle plastic.

BioFil system is useful for treatment organic effluent such as palm oil mill effluent, paper waste, poultry processing and other strong organic wastes.
The BioFil system is small, compact and offers a high-rate process. The results have been very successful and the technology is able to achieve over 80% destruction of the organics.

The following type of wastes can be treated using BioFil:
Palm oil mill, poultry processing, paper mill, food industries,
vegetable processing, distilleries, dairies, abbatoirs, pharmaceuticals,
fish processing, rubber factories, tanneries, chemical wastes.

Latest version of biofil system is BioFil-AE for sewage effluent, especially to remove residual BOD from Standard B to A.

The BioFil technology has already been commercialised and is Patent Pending (No: PI9502143). The marketing is carried out exclusively by Pakar Management Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. Website: www.pakar.com.my

Universiti Putra Malaysia invites joint ventures to develop strategic alliances for other applications.
