Dedicated to the Reading and Appreciation of the
Works of One of Norway's Leading Literary Artists
Who are the Friends of Jens?
The Friends of Jens are a diverse, international group of
Bjørneboe enthusiasts,
including educators, translators, librarians, spiritual seekers and
anarchists, who
wish to promote the reading and appreciation of Jens' work. It is
generally
acknowledged that Jens Bjørneboe would be as well recognized as
Ernest
Hemingway or Gunter Grass if he had been writing in a world language. As
it is,
Bjørneboe remains little known outside of Scandinavia, although
he has
been translated into a number of languages.
The Friends of Jens currently have two main
goals:
- To provide an international forum for anyone who is
interested in Bjørneboe's work or in learning more about him.
- To promote the translation and dissemination of Bjørneboe's
works, particularly into English.

- Jens Bjørneboe in EnglishThis is the most up-to-date and extensive site devoted to Bjørneboe in the English language. It includes a Bjørneboe "Quote of the Month," translations of poetry, essays, and excerpts from novels, extensive links to Norwegian Bjørneboe sites, bibliographies, and a host of other interesting and useful information. Maintained by translator Esther Mürer, it is a well-organized and inviting site.
- INSIGHTThis is the first website to have presented works of Bjørneboe in English: the Bjørneboe section of Christian Lund's Insight. It contains the first chapter of The Sharks and three essays in English, as well as some works in Norwegian and a number of pictures of Bjørneboe. Due to the webmaster's travel agenda, this website has not been maintained for awhile. Please disregard the out-of-date address for Friends of Jens on this site; the PA address is the correct one.
