Nickname: Plato John 'Plato' Crawford is the unwanted one. Apparently he has no friends and family. His parents are always away from home, leaving him behind with a nurse. Yet Plato worships them, especially his father. Sometimes he would imagine him as a big wheel in New York; other times, a hero from the China Sea. Jim's arrival in town has provided some comfort for this poor kid. When they first met in the police station, Jim offers him a jacket and although Plato does not accept the offer right away, he is overwhelmed by the new boy's charm and kindness. He is attracted to Jim, calling him his "best friend". Deep down in his heart he sees Jim as a substitute to his father. Jim and Judy, Plato's only friends and temporary parental figures, realize that immediately when the three of them spend the fateful night at the mansion. "You should have heard him earlier tonight. He was talking about you," Judy said, "Like you were a hero in the China Sea." To which Jim replied, "He tried to make us his family. I guess he just wants us to be like his f--" "Father and mother" were the unspoken words. The relationship between the three does not last long. When Plato later finds himself facing Buzz's gang alone, he goes wild and starts running up and down the mansion with his gun. What would happen to him and his friends? Who can save these poor children? |
