Hit the "Back" button on your browser to return to this site 4/1/02: I was told today of a Rottweiler that was picked up here in Anchorage with bad hip dysplasia, entropion in both eyes, weak in the rear and very malnourished. Why am I telling you this? Because it is heartbreaking to say the least, that someone in this town was too cheap to spend the money to have this poor boy put to sleep. Cost? Around $200.00 at a vet clinic. Cost if you dump him somewhere? Free!
Something else that irritates me is the fact that somewhere in the area, there is a breeder that isn't having their breeding dogs hips OFA'd and either one or both parents have or are carriers of entropion. A few years back, a friend rescued a Rottweiler from Wasilla that had Entropion in one eye and total cost for the surgery to have it fixed was $600.00. PLEASE, Please.... if you are buying a puppy from a breeder, make absolutely SURE they have health certifications on both parents! If they say they don't need them because their dogs get around fine or "That doesn't run in this bloodline"... don't just walk, RUN AWAY! This is a decision that you will be living with (hopefully), for the next 7-10 *years* and should not be done without alot of thought.
