Welcome to the Peace River country

Current weather and forecasts from Environment Canada for:
Dawson Creek
Fort St John

It has been said by many who live in this part of the world, that it is the most beautiful place in which to live. Having spent most of my life in the Peace River area of British Columbia, I agree. There are those, citing winter temperatures at times below -50 celcius, who might take issue with the idea of this being such a beautiful place to live. For those of us who love this land, cold winter temperatures are soon forgotten in the long, warm summers that boast up to eighteen hours of sunshine per day. Winter can be long and cold, but is often interrupted by warm chinook winds. The Peace River country remains a land rich in resources, wildlife, natural beauty, and still a measure of the freedom so cherished by most westerners.

The Peace River near the B.C. - Alberta border.

Bordered on the west by the Rocky Mountains and on the east by the B.C. - Alberta border, it undergoes a transformation from rugged mountain peaks and valleys, to the wide sky country of the prairies. And just to make things even more interesting, the mighty Peace River carves a beautiful west to east valley through the center of the region. This valley, in places, reaches a thousand feet below the surrounding prairie. Agriculture, forestry, oil & gas, mining, hydro-electric generation, and the infastructure of supporting businesses help keep the roughly 60,000 residents relatively well fed and clothed.

An outdoorsman's paradise, this land offers countless adventures for all who love and appreciate the great outdoors. Whether you like fishing, hunting, camping, backpacking, boating, etc., this land has what you are looking for, and that in generous helpings. If you get a chance, come on up to the northeast corner of B.C. and see why the people of the Peace love this land so. Of course one can't forget about the famous Alaska Highway which starts in Dawson Creek and begins it's 1500 mile trek up to Fairbanks.

More friendly folks you'll never meet than here in the Peace River Country.
