Statuette of the scorpion-goddess Serqet (Srqt), one of the numerous manifestations of the Great Goddess in Ancient Egypt. This exquisite masterpiece, made of pure gold (h = 0.9 m) was found in the tomb of king Tutankhamun, and represented Serqet as one of the four protecting godesses (the other were Isis, Nepthys and Neith) of the pharaoh's canopic shrine, were his viscera were kept mummified. According to my opinion, it incorporates the very aesthetic principles of what the Egyptians conceived as beautiful, pure and divine. It is found in the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, Cairo.
