A MASSPRODUCTION COLUMN (10/05/99)

    Debt Or Ally?

    As you read my previous column, Ms Usagi Nakamura, a famous fantasy writer in Japan, is the Queen of Debt, Cashing and Shopping. I have read her several novels and essays. At last, I am enough fool to believe her.
    I wrote I had a credit card issued by Sakura Bank, Japan.
    What? I have no bank account at Sakura Bank. However Sakura Bank issued a credit cart for me this time. I applied to Sumitomo Bank for an issue of credit card in 1991. Sumitomo Bank refused it. Therefore I could not join IEEE.
    As you heard your friends' talk, therefore I could not get an academic job at colleges then. So I applied to Takeda Chemical Industries for a fellowship. Takeda Yakuhin Co. refused it because Dr.FangLang did not graduate from Univ. of Tokyo or Kyoto University. Then I have no income. I was 29 years old then. I was at a loss.
    In 1992, I got a new job at a public organization. But I could not have any credit card yet. Sumitomo Bank said to me, "Your occupation is temporary. Moreover your income is too little. Your parents have no fortune..."
    As you heard your friends' talk, I was shunted to a local branch at Nagoya city in 1995. I worked for student exchange and international academic affairs there. At the position, one among full-time workers a year can go away to Wuhan (HUST), Nanjing (Nanjing Univ.) or Taipei on business. Therefore the position has several officials that can speak Chinese. I wanted to go to China, so I did my best. But I could not go to China.
    As you know, I cannot speak German. In 1997, I had to go to South Germany on business. Then I had to obtain a credit card. Sumitomo Bank refused its issue. But then Sumitomo Bank unwillingly issued a short-term credit card for the travel.

    Thereafter I got a new job at Hongo, Tokyo. One year later, I got the next job at Yebisu, Tokyo. But my income is still small.
    One day I wanted to obtain several books written in English. I bought them on credit at "amazon.com." Them cost me $58.32! Ah!

    By the way, I have 15 sets of Ty's Beanie Babies. I show them as follows;
