Gameplay Help:

Secrets

This page contains unrevealed secrets that are hard to find throughout the game. If I'm missing something send it to me.

Inn Secret!
If your low on HP/FP and you want to save a little cash, don't go to the ordinary town inn.Instead go to one of the following FREE Inns closest to you:
  • Mario's Pad
  • The Rose Town Inn
  • The Monstro Town Inn (3 Musty Fears)
  • The Hot Spring Inn (Nimbus Land)
  • Bowser's Keep
This will both save you time and cash. Why spend money when you don't need to?

Moleville Trolley Challenge Secret!

When you make it to the Moleville Trolley the first time, don't go as fast as you can.
If you wager 30 coins improve your time just by a small margin each time you go down you can get rewarded 50 coins for doing so.
This probably is not one of the best tricks in the game, but you can make money at doing it and have fun at it too.

Link???

If you return to the Rose Town inn later in the game, you'll see that Link, a character from the ever popular The Legend of Zelda, is their sleeping in the inn too.

Moleville fireworks!

You can purchase fireworks at Moleville and save them until the end of the game. If you do at the end of the game you can enjoy a fireworks show. The more you buy the better it is.

Moleville ripoff!

When you get to Moleville and begin to trade items (the fireworks, shiny stone, etc.) and you get the shiny stone you'll find a mole sitting in a bucket who want's a Carbo Cookie. Now, you could exchange the shiny stone again for a Carbo Cookie and give it to the poor little mole sitting on the bucket... if you want to.
To tell ya the truth, you really shouldn't because since you've went looking around for the fireworks, which took you a while to find, and finally, when you got their, you almost fainted when you found out that they aren't cheap. So you went out fighting and earned the coins you needed, went back and bought the fireworks. So then, the next thing ya know, this little girl want's to know if ya'll trade those so hard-ta-get fireworks for her so called "shiny" (but really not so shiny) shiny stone. So, you think about it for a while and begin to feel sorry for the little dreamer and trade it. So then you find someone who want's the shiny stone, who will give ya a worthless, stinky Carbo Cookie.
Now, thing's really begin to develop- you now find a mole sitting on a bucket, (don't ask me why)wanting to know if you'll give her the Carbo Cookie. Now you begin to think, somethin' fishy is goin' on here. If you give it it her, she say's she'll give you something, so, being the soft hearted person you are, you give the hungry mole your one and only Carbo Cookie. She get's up out of her bucket. You can jump into the bucket and travel into the Midas River. If you give her yet another Carbo Cookie she'll give ya a Frog Coin- probably the most expensive one you've bought.

The point I'm trying to make is when you get the Shiny Stone, STOP! You'll use the Shiny Stone later in the game.

Rock Candy Secret!

Rock Candy is probably the BEST Item you can get. It scorches almost all enemies by taking away 200-300 HP!!! It can't be bought, but you can get it in Seaside Town by trading in Mushrooms to the Mushroom boy who then tastes them to see if you've got one. The best place to find the lucky mushrooms is to go to the Forest Maze and find mushrooms, then take them to Seaside Town.

Only use Rock Candy when you need it. For instance, use it on the Culex or at the end of the game on the Smithy.

Secrets sorted by location!

The Mushroom Kingdom

When you first go into Mushroom Kingdom, you'll see a house on your left that's right beside The Princess's Castle. Try to go around it and you'll find someone hiding behind the house.
Talk to him occasionally and he'll give you some hints.

In the Princess's Castle go to Toadstool's room and go up to the chair in the far side of the room on the right side of the fire place. You'll be able to find "Toadstool's ???". If you think you know just what "Toadstool's ???" really is, E-Mail me
Anyway, Toadstool's grandma will walk up to you and tell you to quit peeking in other people's things and will give you a Mushroom.

Go to the inn after you have rescued Toadstool. There will be a boyat the corner playing his gameboy. Talk to him several times and he'll tell you that you are distracting him. After a while of this he'll finally sell it to you. You will be able to buy his Game Boy for 500 coins.

Don't talk to the guy who lost his wallet right after you get back to Mushroom Kingdom. If you come back later in the game, he'll upgrade thething he finds in your wallet. I tried this after I beat Star Hill, and Igot a Flower Jar instead of a Frog Coin.

To defeat Mack easier, kill all but one of those little guys and concentrate on Mack. Don't defeat all of them because four more will come. Using Mallow's Thunderbolt also works.

Tadpole Pond

There is a Juice Bar on the left. You'll need a membership card toget in. In order obtain the Alto Card from Toadofsky at MelodyBay you have to play him Frogfucious' suite #18 (So La Mi Re Do Re Do Re).
Rose Town
If you play with Gaz, from then on you will be able to stay at theinn for free!

If you stay overnight at the inn, you will be able to see Link (fromZelda) in the next morning.

There is a Gardener in the town. (In order to find him, you'll firsthave to talk to the mouse in Monstro Town.) When you give him the Seed andthe Fertilizer, you will get two Lazy Shells (one weapon and one armor). The weapon is extremely powerful! The armor lowers your attack while it increases your defense.

There is a guy that tells you the location of the secret treasurein the maze. He tells you "Left, left, straight and right." Remember thatthe directions are relative to Mario, not to the screen.

When you go to Rose Town for the first time, go into the house that the man was working on. Then go up a floor and get the hidden box over the bed, and get out of there without touching the switch. After you go left, left, forward, and right, beat the Forest Maze, go back to the house, and hit the switch.
Then tell the truth and confess. He'll then give you a Frog Coin.

Later in the game, (SeaSide Town) you'll use the mushrooms that you find in the Forest Maze, to get powerful items like Rock Candy, Kerokero Cola, and other things.

Pipe Vault

There are a lot of pipes in the Pipe Vault, but if you go to the second to last pipe you can play the "goomba thumping game" and win prizes too.
