9/14/99

To make up for the past few days, I have a huge update for today. Before I begin, let me urge you to see The Sixth Sense! It was incredible. Anyway, check out the Season 7 Spoilers page to see which episodes are airing on X2. They will not be announced here. First I will start with XF and HR spoilers. In the premiere (7X04 started filming yesterday) Scully will "race desperately" to save Mulder, whose mind and body are being destroyed by "some alien illness." She'll also encounter an alien herself. And she'll convince Skinner to sacrifice Mulder to prove that his disease was alien in origin. Chris Carter may direct the finale, which Frank Spotnitz will also probably help write. A possible title is "The Project." Jeff Gulka has been contracted this season! Nick Lea will show up in episodes next year and probably in the February two-parter, for which writing should begin late October. The 2nd Stephen King episode will not happen. And Mark Snow, during a chat, said the title sequence is not changing. Rob Lieberman directed the TV movie on the Titanic, so we may see some inside jokes in his episode, 7X06. Gillian Anderson (who unfortunately didn't win the Emmy but looked great!) also wants this to be the last year and expressed interest in more movies. There should be a changed tagline in either 7X03 or 7X04. For the MM crossover, some of the filming may be done in Vancouver! Chris Carter originally wanted to direct the episode, and it isn't certain that Peter Watts will show up. Fowley and CSM will be in the first two episodes, with the former to appear in 4 episodes this season. Now I want to go over some airdates. September 12, 19, and 26; and October 10 and 31 will be pre-empted; that is, no episode. "Biogenesis" will be rerun on October 24. BTW David Amann, who I said is executive script editor and not co-producer, is actually both. And I rented The Siege, and before the movie starts there is a long preview for season 6, from the premiere all the way to "One Son." That makes it 11 promo spots! (Thanks Jason for the heads-up.) Finally, there is a rumor that Mulder and Scully will be trapped in the woods again this season, with a chat about their relationship.

The episode after the pilot of HR (1.01) is called "Leviathan." Bryan Spicer will direct at least 3 episodes in the 1st season, including episodes 3 (1.02) and 8. Check out this rumor...watch for a Darin Morgan-written/directed episode in season 2 featuring the comeback of Jose Chung (who died in MM's "Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense"). Obviously Chung would show up "alive" within Harsh Realm. Sounds interesting! And the ever-famous GA voiceover in the pilot may or may not stay in the final version. Keep your fingers crossed! Another tidbit is that Hobbes' dog is named Dexter apparently, after the main character of the comic book series. I received some more info on the Harsh Realm crew: Director of Photography: JOEL RANSOM; Supervising Producer: JOHN SHIBAN; Co-Executive Producer: TONY TO; Executive Producers: CHRIS CARTER, FRANK SPOTNITZ, DAN SACKHEIM and MICHELLE MCLAREN; Casting: APRIL WEBSTER; Assistant Director: VLADIMIR "VAL" STEFOFFS; Gaffer: RICHARD "BUCKY" BUCKMASTER; Key Grip: AL CAMPBELL; Stunt Coordinators: JAMES BAMFORD and LOU BOLLO; Props Assistant: INA BROOKS; Armourer: ROB FOURNIER; Assistant to Mr. Carter: JOANNE SERVICE; Production Designer: GRAEME MURRAY; and Production Manager: GEORGE GRIEVE. Recognize any of them? Thanks a TON to Dennis X for sending me the above information and most of the X-Files info! Also check out this page for videos of the Fox HR ads.

A lot of actors we know are on other projects. Chris Owens will be in The Family Man, an indie film produced by the Canadian Film Centre. And anyone remember Tilt? The official magazine described how trainee assistant director of XF in Vancouver Patrick Stark was starting an indie project with Tom Braidwood. Now we know that production is underway and the film has become quite an ambitious project! I hope it turns out well. Dean Haglund can now be seen on an ad for digital cable. And keep checking back at his site, www.deanx.com, for an upcoming auction to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society organized by William B. Davis. Also I received these in the mail, for those who are interested:

"I have some news for your site. Chris Owens (Agent Spender) will be Guest of Honour at the Primedia convention in Toronto, Canada October 22-24, 1999. For further info on the con the website is www.interlog.com/~kcozens/primedia and the email addy is primedia@iname.com. The info about Chris isn't on the site yet (too new), but all the other con info is there.

Thanks,
Colleen Hillerup"

"Davis will be appearing on the floor at the Wescon, San Jose [California] Convention Center, October 19-21. His appearance is billed as just hanging around, doing autographs, photos, etc. Wescon is an electronics conference. The whole convention this year has an XF theme, from the theme 'Something's Out There You Can Use' to '"X"-citing things to look forward to at Wescon/99.'"

The above from Dennis X. And fresh on the heels of the news that the official site is probably undergoing extensive maintenance and updating, comes this:

"X-Philes, rejoice: You can geek out on behind-the-scenes goodies before the show leaves the air forever. Fox.com will offer 3-D tours of X-Files sets, and the network is currently considering auctioning items from the set online. To set up the ante even higher, the site will post a history of virtual reality to push the new sci-fi series Harsh Realm."

Before I move on to some merchandise info, here's something cool from Dennis X: At the European premiere of the movie in Berlin (July 24, 1998), it was dubbed in German with English subtitles. The only actor's voice kept in that version was Armin Mueller-Stahl's--who redubbed his own voice in German! Anyway. Look for the first episodes on DVD and Wave 8 both on October 26. Thanks to Neil Main for the following two things. The collector's card that came with the Special Edition videos in Australia (#2 out of a 9-card puzzle) didn't come with them in the U.K., because the manufacturer forgot to include them! But card #1, which comes with the "One Son" videos, was included in the U.K. version. And, this is a picture of the U.K. Odeon Theaters lobby card, the one I mentioned so long ago with The Avengers on the back. Now the promo Australian enhanced CD from last update has at least one variation--one without the Web site on disc and only 1 soundtrack song. This is the one that was offered free with the Special Edition videos. The "Walking After You" video (I've never seen the whole thing) apparently does not have the Lone Gunmen in it. Thanks Medellia! THAT'S IT!

Sorry for the lack of updates...but unfortunately most other sites aren't updating much now anyway. That isn't an excuse though...I've been busy. Anyway. There are rumors of a sequel to "Humbug" this season but I don't know who would write it. Also, thanks to Dennis X, we now know that William B. Davis (who I said earlier had pitched his 3rd story idea to CC&Co.) has written a script and it will be used entirely or in part. It has to do with CSM's activities outside of the Syndicate and the Project (like in "Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man"), and develops his relationship with Scully. The same source told me that in Germany season 6 starts airing on September 20 on ProSeven. In addition, another source provided me with some general information: The Krycek episode has not been written (yet?). And the WMM appearance is apparently going to be in a flashback. About 7X08, the crossover episode...Frank Black and Peter Watts will be in it, and it will also be a Christmas-themed episode. (4 Christmas episodes and 0 Halloween episodes? What is this?!) Confirm that Chris Carter wrote it. And happy belated birthday to Chris Owens (yesterday) and Mark Snow (August 26)!

Here is the print ad for "Three of a Kind," thanks again to Dennis X. Also there's another official site for the show, this one from Fox Channel 61 (don't know where it's located). Harsh Realm also has a site there. Speaking of which, I've started a HR Spoilers page, if you haven't already noticed! New info is that episode 3 (1.02) is called "Inga Fossa" and will be directed by Bryan Spicer, who will also direct episode 8. Currently the show is contracted to 13 episodes. Finally, I have some merchandise info. In Australia, Spain, and other countries, a promo CD-ROM was released for the X-Files movie by Screendragon. It is also available at HMV stores in Australia free with the Special Edition video. The CD contains the "Walking After You" video, other songs from the soundtrack, the X-Files game trailer, the entire X-Files movie Web site, a screensaver (I assume the U.K. one), and the 3 trailers in Screendragon movie format. In fact, there's an official page for the CD! Thanks Medellia! That is all for today.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has the following in an interview with Chris Carter: "'I am totally involved this season,' says creator Chris Carter. 'I'm slated to write 10 episodes, including the season finale, which we're looking at as the end of the series.' Will they go out with a bang? 'Depending on your definition of that phrase, yes, definitely,' says Carter, who adds that, in the send-off, 'Mulder and Scully will do something they've never done before.' You mean, smile?" Take it as you wish!! dc from The Squirrel's Nest said this in her What's New page: "I have recently heard they are doing a major, major re-design [to the official site] so that might mean (fingers crossed) that they haven't completely forgotten their fans and will actually start updating again!" Yes, fingers crossed. And thanks to Mello for reminding me that the Unrestricted Access updates actually are up to "The End" now. Still hoping for more Millennium this season? Go to this site to sign a petition and other things. And, Medellia briefed me on what exactly is going on with the 2 different versions of the X-Files movie Special Edition videos in Australia:

"Okay, here's the deal--There are 2 versions of the video available. All of the paper inclusions are exactly the same (i.e. both versions have the Scully character card, and whatever else comes with the video). However, Target and K-Mart stores had an exclusive deal where you got the Special Edition of the movie, plus a half-hour behind-the-scenes special/interview with Martin Landau as well as the Gillian Anderson and Chris Carter interviews. People who bought it from other retailers didn't get this exclusive, so most of us who bought it at HMV for the CD-ROM special [hopefully more info on this soon] didn't get the other behind-the-scenes special. (It may have been one of the specials that was aired before--either on Ten or Foxtel...or not. I didn't get the chance to ask. [It is the special aired on Fox in the USA.])"

Finally, extex posted this on the newsgroup:

Just a warning, that I will be a lot more busy from now on so if the updates aren't every day or every other day sometimes don't worry, I'm still here. Anyway, sad news for frequenters to The PA X-Files. dc the webmistress is disgruntled about the site & show...but I won't try to put it into my words. Check out the What's New page for her explanation. Can't blame her really. To balance that news out with some laughs, check out this comic that's in the current issue of TV Guide. Thanks Jason!

Contest time again: "The X-Files Secret Ballot Sweepstakes returns this Thanksgiving. Keep watching The X-Files, 5 nights a week for more details [on FX]." Cool! And before I move on some random stuff: A crew member on the set claims that although "Biogenesis" started a new "chapter" of the mythology with new turns, the mythology will stay basically the same. The title for 7X02, "The Goldberg Variation," refers to Rube Goldberg (as said in the Fox memo). Rube Goldberg is the guy who started making complicated machines to do simple tasks--you've probably seen the pictures he draws of them, ridiculously complex machines to do things like opening a bottle of soda. (Thanks Dennis X!) Nothing to do with Bach's "Aria in 30 variations" (the "Goldberg variations" no less)! And don't worry about the effect of DD's lawsuit on movie sequels. He said this about CC: "Chris will be my friend personally and professionally when this is all over." Also, there is a possibility of 3, not just 1 or 2, Lone Gunmen solo episodes this season. If you ask me that's going overboard. Finally, at Fox Interactive there are now episode updates for The X-Files Unrestricted Access through 5X15 I think--the updates are accessed through the program. The above also thanks to Dennis X.

General XF merchandise stuff. A while ago I was talking about how Fox thought the market was saturated with X-Files stuff and pulled virtually everything off the shelves--at least let all the licenses expire and everything sell out. Well I think we're in for a comeback for the final season. I just bought the 2000 calendar (which is NOT bad like I've heard, it's pretty cool actually), which for some reason doesn't seem much later than when I bought the 1999 one. Sometime in the future the 5th volume of the Official Guide to The X-Files will come out, I have confirmed. The season 5 box set came out 2 months ago internationally. And we have a new issue of the magazine to look forward to, and the next yearbook!

"Inside this next issue [#12], you'll find a revealing interview with series creator Chris Carter. [The picture, I believe, is probably either an alternate/fan club cover of issue 11, the regular cover of which was in a previous update, or a newer version of the regular issue 11 cover. Not actually a picture of issue 12.] Learn what's ahead for Carter as his spooky franchise embarks on its final season. Also, go behind the scenes with a visit to the show's Los Angeles set for a sneak peek at the internal workings of The X-Files' dark world. [Issue 11, and/or this issue will include Dean Haglund's first comic strip for the magazine.]"

"Offering the most comprehensive resource of information about science fiction's number-one show, this special X-Files Official Yearbook collector's edition magazine features 100 pages of up-to-the-minute information, including a candid interview with actress Mimi Rogers and one-on-one conversations with the men behind some of the show's most beloved characters--Deep Throat, X, Agent Jeffrey Spender, the Syndicate, and more. Also, the series' visual wizards offer a rare peek at the tricks of their trade with an exclusive collection of the behind-the-scenes artwork that shaped the exciting look of last season. Plus, you'll find classic articles culled from the pages of The X-Files Official Magazine--from in-depth reports from the series' L.A. set to detailed examinations of their characters and their creators."

"Do the homework. Get the scoop on Deep Throat, X, Agent Jeffrey Spender, the Syndicate, and others, then take the test. Do you really know your X-Files trivia, or are you just a poser? The X-Files Official Yearbook lets you in on all the little tidbits that you need to have in your cranial filing cabinet. Up-to-the-minute information, a candid interview with actress Mimi Rogers, and the lowdown on the series' visual wizards are just part of all the brain food you get once the 100-page magazine is yours."

Lots of good stuff today. If you haven't already (!), check the previous update!! First of all I finally updated the Mythology section again, with additions and updates to the last 2 sections plus more on Betsy Hagopian and the hybrids. Now then, want some cool info on the premiere? "The two-part opener takes up where spring's cliffhanger left off, with Mulder in a padded cell after being infected by an alien substance. Carter also promises 'interesting twists' involving Krycek (Nicholas Lea), Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and Agent Fowley (Mimi Rogers). Look for the Well-Manicured Man (John Neville), despite his apparent demise in the X-Files movie." There you go! Other rumors are that he will come for 1-3 episodes and be anonymous. More general stuff: Vince Gilligan is said to have done "a little" writing for Harsh Realm, whatever that means. The teaser of "Hungry" takes place at the drive-thru. So far the official Emmy winnings for The X-Files are 1 out of the 7 announced awards, the 8th (Best Actress) to be televised later. "MAKEUP FOR A SERIES: 'The X-Files: Two Fathers/One Son, Parts 1 and 2,' Fox." Well deserved I think. Anyway I've finally updated the Season 7 Spoilers page to all the new info from the 28th. Also check it out for some very interesting info on the rumored Harlan Ellison episode (under "Others") from JourneyToX (thanks!). In other news, DD and CC are writing an episode together (despite the lawsuit)! Don't know what that means; actually I guess it could be 7X08, the millennium episode. Also more evidence to boost the probability that this is the last season is that Fox isn't too happy about the increasing costs of the show--$3 million an episode, $4 million for "Triangle"! This is due to the move to L.A. and the fact that, according to the article this information is from, each episode is made more to the scale of an independent movie. Speaking of which, Dean Haglund is doing an indie film called A Family Owned Business, to shoot spring of 2000. His Web site was finally updated a few days ago. Check the newly updated Gallery, Buzz, Travel, and Calendar sections. The Travel section has a hilarious true story! Also he said this in his site: "I was also at Comicon in San Diego. For those of you that missed me I was at the MVP booth, the company that puts out the official X-Files magazine. I was signing some of my cartoon work that will be appearing in the magazine in the future." Hmm!

Remember those domain names reserved by Fox but not yet used? I found another one: www.danascully.com. Anyway to merchandise news: "This is big news. There are (at least) two (possibly three) different versions of The X-Files Movie: Special Edition. The video I have includes a 30-minute special (which screened on TV just before the movie hit the cinemas in Australia last year) titled 'The Making of The X-Files Movie.' This is announced via a sticker on the front cover of the video. Someone else on the other hand has a video that doesn't have the 30-minute special, but has instead a 10-15 minute interview with Chris Carter and Gillian Anderson (which by the way is mentioned on the cover of my video, but not included). So what does that mean? Who's being ripped off?!" Interesting. I got pictures of some cool stuff from Argentina: a newspaper ad from poster E, a billboard version of poster D, a banner version of poster E, and the same one but also with fiber-optic lights on the "X." And you may recall that the Special Edition videos in other countries include #2 of a 9-card puzzle. Here are cards 1 and 2, thanks to Dennis X! The one that comes with the Special Editions I think is the right one. Finally, the editor of dvdfile.com thinks that Duchovny's lawsuit may spell the end of movie sequels (I wouldn't bet on it) and possibly delay the episodes on DVD expected in October.

UPCOMING EPISODES

7X01 "Hungry" Airdate 12/5/99 Vince Gilligan/Kim Manners
Appearances can certainly be deceiving. Though a multitude of prosthetic disguises (fake ears, hair, nose, etc.) allows him to function in society looking like a normal human being, a seemingly average man is underneath a frightening "monster" unable to control his terrible compulsion to eat live human brains. Try as he might to suppress the urges that not only leave people dead but also leave him with a maddeningly guilty conscience, the man employs every means available (including Tony Robbins-like motivational tapes) to get control of his gruesome habit. Arriving in this typically American small town while investigating one of these bizarre brain-chewing murders, MULDER and SCULLY set out in search of answers as they unknowingly place themselves in harm's way. As many of the events that unfold are seen from the "monster"'s P.O.V. as he is pursued by the FBI detectives, this is an intriguing look (a la Crime and Punishment) into the conflicted and disturbed mind of a reluctant killer.
STATUS: post-production, shooting from 8/9-8/18
MY TAKE: Looks like another winner from Gilligan; although not the most original of stories should be VERY interesting.

7X02 "The Goldberg Variation" Airdate 11/21/99! Jeff Bell/Tom Wright
In an episode that is lighter in tone (a la last season's highly rated [????] "Rain King"), MULDER and SCULLY investigate a man who seems to be just a little too lucky. Since a freak accident caused him to lose his eye, this otherwise normal gentleman has been "cursed" with good luck. Cursed in the sense that although things always seem to go his way, unfortunately the cosmic order of the universe dictates that as lucky as he is, someone must therefore suffer in the reciprocal amount. Caught up in an elaborate real-life Rube Goldberg device, MULDER and SCULLY see first-hand the consequences that occur when luck, coincidence and chance collide to make an event happen just the right way. At its heart a morality tale tinged with emotion, the episodes explores the idea that in life we do not know whether an incident was good or bad until it is seen in a larger context.
STATUS: filming until 8/30
MY TAKE: Could go either way, but looks kind of heavy and deep, which is good; guess the "lighter tone" is referring to not scary? Definitely doesn't sound funny.

7X03 UNTITLED ["6th Extinction" we know now] Airdate 11/7/99 Chris Carter & Frank Spotnitz/Kim Manners
In a continuation from last season's cliffhanger, we find SCULLY in Africa standing over and supervising the removal of what she believes to be some sort of alien spacecraft. Still reeling from her first exposure to hard "proof" of the existence of extraterrestrial life, SCULLY travels back to the United States to bring this information to MULDER. What she finds upon her return, however, is her partner in a desperate and rapidly deteriorating state of mental and physical health. Going in search of answers, SCULLY is approached by a mysterious medical scientist (stunt casting [?]) who claims to know what ails MULDER. Tying MULDER's illness into his previous exposure to the alien virus, the scientist claims that certain parts of his brain, previously inactive in man's evolution, are now coming to life. Slowly putting the pieces of the scientist's theory together, SCULLY starts to realize the implications: the newly activated brain matter (triggered by the markings from the alien spaceship) raises the notion that not only might aliens have had a role in human evolution, but also all human beings may share a previously unknown alien ancestry. As SCULLY struggles with this new information, we slowly start to see the link between MULDER's plight and all the alien mythology from seasons past.
STATUS: story pitched, filming from 8/31-9/10
MY TAKE: What can I say? AWESOME! Season 6 finale was kind of weak after 3rd & 4th viewings, this should be much better, even better than "The Beginning" and possibly the 3rd & 4th season premieres!

7X04 UNTITLED - PART 2 [part 3 of 3] Airdate 11/14/99 Chris Carter & Frank Spotnitz/Michael Watkins
In the conclusion of a two [three]-episode story arc, as SCULLY continues to search for ways to save her ailing partner, the alien spacecraft is hijacked by unknown sources. Distraught over losing possession of this incredibly valuable (in terms of the information it may reveal) commodity, SCULLY now must face the reality that she has no allies in her search for the truth. MULDER meanwhile, in a coma-like state at this point, starts to envision (a la The Last Temptation of Christ) what his life would have been like if he had not taken up his all-consuming alien quest. Acting as voyeurs in this dreamlike fantasy (all this is taking place in MULDER's head), we see how the world would be a different place if our hero had not taken the road less traveled. Back in the real world however, SCULLY, no longer protected by her partner, is approached by a newly contrite CIGARETTE-SMOKING MAN who attempts to persuade her that he is "good" and simply acting in the best interests of mankind. Not knowing who to trust, SCULLY turns to the mysterious scientist in the hopes that above all else, he will be able to save MULDER. As events unfold and MULDER starts on the road to recovery, we come to understand that the scientist is a good person who unfortunately has fallen in league with the "bad guys." Having grown very fond of SCULLY, he will ultimately sacrifice himself to save both her and MULDER.
STATUS: story pitched, filming from 9/13-9/22
MY TAKE: Sounds more like "The Blessing Way" (dream sequences), which I loved. What about Hosteen, Sandoz, Barnes, Krycek, and Skinner's damn nanites?! I hope colonization (those weird background conversations in the CSM shot in "Biogenesis") and the Syndicate are addressed.

7X05 - NO INFO GIVEN!

7X06 UNTITLED Airdate 12/12/99 David Amann/Rob Lieberman
Investigating a number of unexplained murders in a small Midwestern town, MULDER and SCULLY discover a strange gang of teenagers headed by a charismatic yet frightening young man. Suspecting that this group is somehow behind the crime spree, MULDER and SCULLY eventually discover a powerful vortex emanating from a split in the Earth in the gang's headquarters in a cave on the outskirts of town. Exposure to the vortex allows humans to move faster than the eye can see, enabling the teens to carry out their deeds unnoticed. Aided in their investigation by a teen recently transplanted to town who challenges the gang's leader, MULDER and SCULLY will help us to explore how bad people will often take advantage of the emotional vulnerabilities of young impressionable kids.
STATUS: story pitched, filming from 10/5-10/14
MY TAKE: WOW! Kind of like "Kaddish" but I can't wait for this episode!

7X07 UNTITLED Airdate 12/19/99 Chip Johannessen/Cliff Bole
Investigating the unsolved disappearance of a prison's death row inmates, MULDER and SCULLY discover a prison priest whose ancient religious chants create some kind of mass hypnosis that allows the condemned men to "escape" unnoticed. Believing he has been called to a higher purpose in life (due to his being earlier in life acquitted of a murder he actually committed), the priest believes it is his mission to lead the death row inmates on a new path to heaven. Confronting a long-forgotten fear by using her memories of a childhood song to dissect the chant's hypnotic messages, SCULLY must call on all her powers of deductive reasoning to not only convince MULDER of her theory but also expose the priest before his actions lead to even bigger "cosmic" damage.
STATUS: story pitched, filming from 10/15-10/26
MY TAKE: "The List" meets "All Souls"? Sounds like a Millennium episode brought to The X-Files (MM writer of course), but looks very interesting.

7X08 - NO INFO GIVEN. The Millennium crossover. Airdate 12/26/99

Season 7 looks to be incredible, is all I can say! Remember, JourneyToX was kind enough to fax out this confidential document to anyone who asked! And someone at Fox risked a lot to get this Out There. There are the credits, and I transcribed the memo.

P.S.: Read the mythology description on my site for an explanation ahead of time of the "Biogenesis" mytharc. I was right all along it seems now, when I wrote it right after the finale aired!

Finally I'm back home! There's some cool news today. First the title of the premiere is "6th Extinction." Also from another set report by H2OLilies8, apparently in "Hungry" someone at a school will get their brains eaten/ripped out. Also there is some new info on the first 4 episodes. It does seem that "Hungry" will be aired 4th not 3rd, and "The Goldberg Variation" will air after part 3 of 3. So from the top: 7X01 is told from Roberts' point of view. He uses many disguises and tries to use motivational tapes to cure himself of his nasty habit. 7X02: A man is cursed after losing an eye in an accident, so that anything good happening to him will cause something bad to happen to someone else. 7X03: The premiere. Scully works on moving the spaceship (so that's what it really is!). Mulder is in terrible shape, and a doctor approaches Scully who wants to help Mulder. He thinks something from Mulder's past is what is causing this (the Tunguska experiments we know now). Scully has a revelation of some sort, and there is no Krycek! 7X04: Part 3. CSM offers to save Mulder's life and assures Scully that his intentions are good. Scully starts to believe the doctor, who is a bad guy. (Barnes?) Mulder, in a coma, has a dream of what his life would be like if he hadn't gone on his quest for the truth. The doctor likes Scully (?) and saves Mulder but dies in doing so. Wow! The above was posted to SpoilerVille by Sea.

8/25/99 *Updated*

UPDATE: We have another set report from Phil R. from today's filming: "They filmed in a small market, with some guy winning a lottery, running out screaming at the top of his lungs. The Shamrock truck apparently made an appearance. Someone gets hit by it again. So the truck has a big part in the episode." Also LuckyGirl was on the set of "Hungry" at the Fox lot on August 18. Get this--at that time they hadn't even started writing the premiere! Ouch! Click here for her description. Here's basically what she said. First check out this cool quote: "He also told me about The X-Files being banned in Budapest and Hungary, and that Chris had shirts made up that said, 'Banned in Budapest and Hungary.' He said it was banned for violence, and get this, sex." Anyway, "Hungry" is about a brain eater, and is supposed to be the 4th (!) ep of the season. Scully finds something like a shark tooth in a victim's head. LuckyGirl found a script in GA's trailer (yes she was allowed in, for about an hour!!), but from the title she can only remember the word "Day" or "Days" in it twice. Kim Manners said that a computer-generated black tooth goes into people's heads, and they explode (that's new). Finally the rumored release date for Wave 8 is October 26.

There is another set report from 7X02! This one is from Phil R. The extra yesterday was "M," and the other report is from SpoilerVille, posted by Serena. This latest report says that the story is in Chicago, to be exact. There are 2 Mafia guys, and they get into the hospital by carrying flowers (probably to pose as family or something). Phil R. also can't place the actor playing Henry, who is a witness to a crime. The thugs confront him in the street with a knife hidden behind one of their backs. Henry gets scared into the street where the Shamrock Bakery truck hits (and kills--this is the spoiler that I didn't want to see yesterday) him. Mulder then runs to him. The apartment complex has a newscaster talking about the death. That's all for the episode, and one more thing. James Cameron wants David Duchovny to be in his 3-part $25 million miniseries Mars after he finishes The X-Files. He just can't escape those aliens!

"The Goldberg Variation" has started filming! There are already 2 different eyewitness accounts, one from an extra who was featured prominently in a few scenes. Click here for that description. It says that "[one] scene concerned a man named Henry who was being pursued by thugs. The 'thugs' pulled up in a black limo. One of them was a huge guy who looked like a Mafia type. Henry was dressed like a repairman in a brown jacket and was SO familiar but I don't know the actor's name." Also "David Duchovny had to run out of the building, racing after Henry and screaming his name." The building is a hospital in Illinois, actually the Unocal building in L.A. Yes it sounded familiar to me too--it was the Dallas government building that exploded in the movie! The other eyewitness account tells of scenes filmed in a run-down apartment complex, and a crash involving a Shamrock Bakery truck. These descriptions do not help in figuring out the plot! On to awards: GA and DD won the Best Actress and Actor in the 1999 Readers' Choice Awards (Canada TV Times). And, this site won another award! The X-Files Underground is a Crazydragon COOLsite for August 1999 (entertainmentSites section). See the homepage for links.

Sorry for the confusion! The next official magazine comes out on October 19 (thanks Jason!). Wondering what episode will be rerun next? It's "S.R. 819," the Sunday after this one, September 5. Next week there's football instead. Finally, please check out The Project--go to the site for more information. It will be very cool!

8/22/99 *Updated*

UPDATE: According to an article transcribed by ALFORNOS, David Amann is now a co-producer, John Shiban a supervising producer, and Vince Gilligan a co-executive producer. Shiban is also a supervising producer on Harsh Realm, and Daniel Sackheim is an executive producer on that show also along with Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz.

The Japanese series continues, with a cool X-Files movie phone card (another one)! Also if you're looking for the Bree Sharp "David Duchovny" song or video, check out this page.

Small update today. First the possible title for the premiere that I have in the Season 7 Spoilers page, "Prophecy," could be for the episode after, part 3. Fox now has an official site for Harsh Realm too. Finally, here is another page that has differences between the episode "Biogenesis" and the script--this page uses a different version of the script than the other page I mentioned earlier.

I will start out with a merchandise update! Here are pictures of the long-sleeve movie crew henley (front, back) and the movie crew hat (different than the visual FX crew hat; front, back). Also, apparently the official magazine DID come out on Tuesday. Has anyone seen it? Back to season 7 info: "We are plotting out the last thing you will see of CSM, the last you'll see of Krycek, of Skinner. We do that with a lot of mixed feelings, even though I think the time is right [to end the series]"--a quote from Frank Spotnitz. Also there have been rumors that there could be 2 Lone Gunmen episodes this season. "Biogenesis" will be rerun on October 24, with possibly the World Series on October 31. Also so far it looks like the Bounty Hunter won't be in this season. The premiere may reveal that Fowley is Mulder's ex-wife, and part 3/3 may be directed by either Kim Manners or even R.W. Goodwin! Click here for set pictures from "Hungry"! In other news, FX is now carried on DirecTV, and the X-Files movie is on German pay-per-view as of August 13 (DF1).

A few things today--Expect the Lone Gunmen in 6 episodes this season at least, including another Gilligan-written solo episode, probably with Modeski again. Also sorry for neglecting you Canadians--the movie was rated AA over there which I will add to the Info section. And the official magazine probably did not come out today--I've heard mid-October as the release date. Does anyone have a concrete date? And the cinematography Emmy nomination I mentioned went to "One Son" and Bill Roe. Finally:

"Fox Interactive has just announced the release of a new X-Files game for Sony PlayStation. Set to hit the shelves October 13, this new game uses new technology to give the 'highest quality video footage ever on the game console.' The four-disc game allows players to work alongside special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as FBI agent Craig Willmore. In adventures involving all of the favorite characters-–Director Skinner, the Lone Gunmen, and the Smoking Man-–players will attempt to solve a case by sorting through evidence, making critical decisions, conducting interviews and more. Information gleaned through investigation will enter into the constantly shifting storyline keeping the facts in a constant state of doubt. The X-Files game will retail for $44.98."

I didn't have time to update yesterday, but here's the news. The premiere will be part 2 of 3, so it has been expanded to a 3-parter like we'd originally hoped. The premiere is on Nov. 7 not Oct. 31 now, with the second part (3/3) the next week, then most likely "Hungry" then "The Goldberg Variation." The latter could have to do with Bach's "Aria with 30 variations," known as the Goldberg variations because they were written for a student of his who had the music played for him to help him fall asleep by a pianist named Goldberg. Location scouting started around July 14, and first-unit shooting started August 9. The next official magazine should be out in stores tomorrow. Back to the episodes, "Hungry" is Scully-lite and the main character's name is Rob Roberts. One source indicates that he is actually a child, possibly the source of the rumor about a liver in "The Goldberg Variation," which could have been mixed up with "Hungry." Also expect in-jokes pointing to Vince Gilligan's screenplay Home Fries, which also took place at a fast-food restaurant, and maybe some dark humor. But at least for the first 6 episodes, humor, silliness, cuteness, and XF Lite are out. I'd bet that Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the premiere with Rob Bowman directing, but maybe David Duchovny will still get a story credit, which was not given to him in the season 6 finale because of the cuts. Bowman may not be directing many episodes this season, if any (I know that was also the rumor last season), but this time there's solid evidence--he's been signed on to direct the film Riptide for Fox about an expedition to get gold from the bottom of a deep hole with deadly water currents in it which killed one of the expedition member's (a surgeon) father. More problems are that Nick Lea is filming a new movie in New Zealand called The Vertical Limit, so that pretty much makes it impossible to put him in any episodes until December or so. That could be the reason for delaying the filming of the premiere until 3rd in the shooting order. David Duchovny's got his own problems too--he lost his suit against a company allegedly selling fake autographs. He also recently sued Fox for apparently keeping a significant amount of cash to themselves which should have gone to him. He went on to accuse them of paying Chris Carter to keep him quiet about it. Sounds like a conspiracy to me.

Fowley will probably die in the first 2 episodes, although other rumors have said she's got at least 4 episodes this season. Suzanne Modeski (1 or more ep), Gibson, and Morris Fletcher will also return. Chris Owens will return in the form of a character in Harsh Realm. And the pilot for that show will air Oct. 8, then be rerun again that Sunday, the 10th, replacing that week's X-Files rerun. The show has some inspiration from Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory, a great war film. Also there will be no XF on September 19 and 26. Anyway, Gillian Anderson also has her own song now, by Yellow Sloth Chicken Broth called "Gillian Anderson (I Wanna Be With You)." Other XF people on new projects--Glen Morgan and James Wong signed a deal with DreamWorks to work on the show The Others. Director assignments: Bryan Spicer is returning to direct 1 or more episode (7X11) and 2 of Harsh Realm (eps 3 and 8). Daniel Sackheim will direct one episode. Tom Wright from Millennium will do 7X02. Michael Watkins will direct more this season to make up for Bowman, and Chris Carter will direct 1 episode (probably also write) in the first half of the season. Daniel Arkin is off the staff as far as I know, but MM executive producer Chip Johannessen has been brought on as a writer, and he will do a lot for a new addition apparently.

Now here's the deal with an 8th season: Gillian Anderson is contracted until season 8, but DD and CC are only signed on through this season. Basically they're making this year like the last, but if Fox approaches CC with an idea, he may continue the show with only Scully. Don't bet on it though. Again CC confirmed that there will be movies, and hopes that the next can be filmed this summer. Don't bet on that either. FS said about the end of the season that it will come full-circle to the beginning, and deal directly with Mulder's sister and involve all the characters. All the mythology episodes will involve what the season 6 finale started.

On to awards--Gillian Anderson won the Viewers for Quality Television Award for Best Actress in a Quality Drama. She was also nominated for an Emmy for best actress in a drama. The other nominations are sound editing ("Triangle"), guest actress (Veronica Cartwright), art direction, cinematography ("The Unnatural"), single-camera picture editing ("S.R. 819"), makeup ("Two Fathers"/"One Son"), and music composition ("S.R. 819"). Now then, two more upcoming episodes: at the end of 1999, a crossover (yes!) with Millennium in which Frank Black appears in a case involving the end of the world! That's 7X08 probably. And a Krycek-centric episode. It was planned, apparently, for the beginning of the season but was probably delayed because of Lea's movie. In other news, the official 2000 calendars have been sighted, and apparently are not too good. :-( A Crusade episode airing on TNT in 2 weeks will have 2 aliens acting like Mulder and Scully, with plenty of in-jokes. Catch it if you can. Just for catching-up's sake:

"On July 15, 1999: Philes are uniting and showing their power by going to http://www.mtv.com/mtv/tubescan/totalrequest2/pickaday.tin. Go to the bottom of the page, and click on 'Other.' In the space provided, enter the song 'Walking After You' by the Foo Fighters. If enough people vote between 4:30 July 14 and 3:00 July 15 the song, from the Fight the Future soundtrack, will make it on Total Request Live, a show that airs the top ten most requested music vidoes of the day. If anyone has any questions, email me at phile1013@hotmail.com."

Anyone know if it worked? Finally, here's a cool tidbit:

"Silverchair's most surprising fan? 'Actually Scully from The X-Files,' answers drummer Ben Gillies, referring of course to actress Gillian Anderson. 'She's a bit of a fan. That was a surprise. We went to this little photo shoot that they were doing and she came up and said, "Hello." She said, "I'm really into you guys, I've liked you for a few years." I was like, cool. She had a bunch of CDs with her and she put ours on. She said to us while we were there that they were shooting an episode and that if we wanted to go down and have a look we were welcome. So we did. We went down, and that's where we met David Duchovny. We had a gig that night and we invited them along, and they actually ended up coming.'"

Before I go, at HMV stores in Australia a CD is being given away with copies of the movie (Special Edition). It contains a screen saver, music videos, a game trailer, and production notes.

I'M BACK! Never fear, starting tomorrow there will be regular updates, but for now let me just put down the first 3 episodes: 7X01 is Vince Gilligan/Kim Manners, called "Hungry" about a fast-food worker who has an eating disorder or is a cannibal. Airing November 7, after the season premiere, 7X03, October 31, Halloween! 7X02 is Jeffrey Bell/Tom Wright (MM director), called "The Goldberg Variation" having to do with finding a liver for a child. 7X01 is Scully-lite and started filming August 2 or 5 I think. Catching up and more news tomorrow!
