In this episode we can follow along on a suspenseful
search for a pyrotechnic madman called Alpha with a grudge against
the mayor. The mayor is a tough, no no-nonsense kind of lady who you
get the feeling knows Nash better than any other public servant in
town, and why not the mayor is a red-blooded female. So, Nash
inadvertently becomes the mayor's personal body guard and then the
fun really begins.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to Nash's father Nick and sister
Stacy, mainly because Nick has gotten himself in trouble with yet
another nursing home. This B story is a heartfelt look at a family,
albeit a somewhat dysfunctional one, who is trying to cope with a
parent in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. This idea is future
tear jerking material in the making.
Although the story about the mayor's bomber is supposed to be the
main story-line, it loses out over the family story. I also lets you
down when you find out that Alpha is a woman who has gone off the
deep end about justice when the mayor, as the District Attorney, got
a traffic ticket fixed. The idea that the creative Alpha turns out to
be a woman is good, but her reasons for her torment fall short of
expectations. [written by nashb]
