Russian scientist Katya Markhova, her assistant and the members of the

The lab was constructed to increase the dwindling food supply caused by

bell, a herd of migrating whales close in on the sphere. It is struck by
one of the creatures, and the assistant is killed. Katya insists upon going
back down as soon as the bathysphere can be repaired...

moves ahead toward the island, a huge brontosaurus looms up from the deep
and smashes the sub amidships...

explains that having already stolen three, he needs only one more missile
to make his country a major nuclear power...

power peace treaty. The plan is that on that day, the Seaview will have
a test run, with only a skeleton crew of technicians instead of the normal
crew of 125 men, during which time it will be taken over and used to torpedo
the Peace Ship.
