KUMMITUSJUNA MEETS ELVIS ON IT´S WEBPAGES BAR BAND FROM KAJAANI ROLLS AROUND THE WORLD IN THE WEB Rock n´roll orchestra from Kajaani; Jimi Lipponen & Kummitusjuna has made some new contacts abroad. Two thousand visitors have been to their web-pages during the first month. E-mail has been sent all over the world - so the train keeps rolling through the continents. A Spanish rockabilly band has greeted Kummitusjuna and in Canada they have been taken as a mexican orchestra. The biggest fan of the band at the time is from New Orleans, miss Rose Peacock from Bourbon Street. This cheerful lady has her own www- pages and a link to the Kummitusjuna´s pages can be found there, too. Kummitusjuna is "doin´ Elvis" (=being cool) Jimi Lipponen & Kummitusjuna attaches great value to the main thing of rock´n roll and tells the true history of it. Reliable sources have told that Elvis and Hank Williams are both alive and well. You Bump into Presley´s ghost all the time. Elvis´ last will and testament has been added to the Kummitusjuna pages recently. Besides an imaginery history of Kummitusjuna you find some other fun on the pages, too. The band has been to many places and has played with Elvis, there´s a photo to prove it! Kummitusjuna isn´t the first band in Kajaani, which has their own web- pages. At least Mukutus has been in the net for over a year, and Perttu Penttinen tells: "Little boys painted as goblins", who play heavy metal have their own pages, too. "You find the truth of rock´n roll on our pages" Says Pepe, modestly. CAREFULLY CHOSEN GIGS Kummitusjuna is very picky, when it comes to going on a stage. " We accept reasonable offers, we´re not pushy." The next time you can see the band on stage is during Kainuun Jazz-kevat (A spring time jazz- happening in Kajaani) Kummitusjuna started as a trio (Marko, Lazy and Ilu)1995.Perttu Penttinen got on the train with his guitar a couple of years ago. What could have the guys done, Pepe dragged his amplifier in, stood behind and didn´t move. Since Lazy moved to South Africa, (Led by true love) Jyrki Sappi took his place as a bassplayer, he is the only one who can replace Lazy, "the most strongly built bass player in South Africa". KUMMITUSJUNA MOULINEX Though you don´t get to see Kummitusjuna on stage very often it keeps practising regularly. "The wives are delighted, when the guys go down to the basement" says Jimi. Kummitusjuna plays songs of the masters of the 40´s and 50´s, Chuck Berry, Elvis and Hank Williams. "Jyrki has the greatest influence on us" says Pepe and points at the sizeable bassplayer... Lately they have been practising their own songs which they recorded in a studio on Easter. Marko and Pepe point at a box on the floor which they call Kummitusjuna Moulinex. New songs are made when you put old songs in the box and take them out brand new. FLAMES AND SNAKESKIN "The web pages are only a small part of our creativity" says Ilu.The guys talk a lot, things about a movie or a video, and an e-mail Kummitusjuna Newsletter which would tell the latest news about Elvis and Kummitusjuna. And when this moveable museum of musical instruments goes on a gig, the costumes are fancy. Suits are decorated with flames and notes, and footwear is snakeskin. "We´re not attending to grow up." Marko describes the nature of the band. Everything is done with good taste and all the four of them admit that Kummitusjuna is a way of life. Jimi Lipponen & Kummitusjuna has the future in old classics they want to play, and there are a lot of them. At least for about the next 15 years.
