TAXALES

Taxales are profusedly branching, evergreen shrubs or small trees. Leaves are small, linear, and spirally arranged. Wood is pycnoxylic, the tracheids have abundant tertiary spirals. Ovules are solitary, axillate, and terminating a dwarf shoot with decussate bracts. Microsporangiophore are in small cones that are scale-like or peltate with 2-8 pollen saces. The embryo has two cotyledons.
