CYCADALES

Cycadales are woody plants with unbranched stems or with occasional adventitious branching. The wood is manoxylic with mucilage canals in the pith and cortex. Leaves are large, pinnate, and rarely bipinnate. These plants are diocious, with reproductive organs in cones except female Cycas, which has cones that are terminal or lateral. Megasporophylls have sterile tips and 2-8 ovules. Seeds are large. Microsporophylls are scale-like or peltate, with pollen sacs on the abaxial side.
