STANZ'S POETRY AND MORE HOMEPAGE

LAST UPDATED MAY 13th, 1998

ADDED A NEW PIC!!! IT'S MY DRUMS!!! (can you tell i'm proud?)

so sad...summer is on it's way and that means...you guessed it...tv shows are having their "season finales" and it's a sad, sad time for me. i'm not even going to LIST what shows i like because anyone that would read it would laugh their ass off...but most of all i'm going to miss seinfeld. god what a great show. best comedy series ever created...now only to be seen in all it's glory only via reruns...all yellow like the Odd Couple or something...not a living thing anymore.

well for those of you here...hello, welcome to my page...blahblahblah...lifes a bitch and then you die...love is the loser and death is the victor either way...blahblahblah...for those that have actually been here before might be wondering when i'm going to post new poetry. well, to replace the poem i took off of here i am posting one (and ONLY one) new poem up...you hear right, new poetry!!! granted...it's not my best work...it's just basically my thoughts on why exactly i (or anyone else for that matter) writes poetry. no, i have no answer. i haven't been writing much for the past few months but recently i've been working on a few. mostly i'm concentrating right now on material for my band. actually it's just me on drums and my friend cory on guitar, but we're working on stuff. we've got like 20 songs now, lyrics only...and we're starting to put them to music. maybe sometime in the future i'll post more new poetry...like anyone out there cares or is even reading this! but here it is...brand new (to this page anyways...)

A little information about me...

My name is Ryan Stancl, better known to most on the internet as stanz or god_lives_underwater or apalexakis. I am a 16 (and a half) year old male years wiser than my age. I am a sophomore at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, WI (or better known as dullsville to most). I don't do much other than listen to music, WATCH MOVIES OBSESSIVELY, play the drums, watch tv, hang with my friends, or go on the internet. I am not a jock, in fact, i detest jocks. I am a skateboarder. Granted, i can't skateboard worth shit yet (i just started, give me a break), the point is that i DO skateboard and also dress like one (don't think i need to explain). I am NOT a poser. Now that that's all clear... I have "dirty" blonde hair, brown eyes, 5'5'' or 5'6'' and 135 pounds. I am an only child. Born and raised in Hartland. The music that i love to listen to is alternative. My favorite band is bUsh. bUsh is GOD in my book! There is no other band that is better. Some of my other favorite bands are NIN, failure, hum, everclear, Our Lady Peace, sister machine gun, deftones, sevendust, KMFDM, helmet, front 242, skinny puppy, god lives underwater, gravity kills, rage against the machine, days of the new, creed, pearl jam, orange 9mm, nirvana, green day, blink-182, 311, far, vibrolush, the jesus lizard, jimmie's chicken shack, koRn, third eye blind, black lab, naked, the chemical brothers, the prodigy, stabbing westward, better than ezra, dream theater, toadies, filter, tonic, wallflowers, smashing pumpkins, cellophane, candlebox, soul asylum, the cure, jewel, matchbox 20, chronic future, goo goo dolls, and many many more.

MORE PICS TO COME WHEN I GO TO TEXAS AFTER SCHOOL IS OVER...

I love to read Dean Koontz books. I have read every single one in print. He is THE best author out there.

MY FAVORITE DEAN KOONTZ QUOTES

"We have a responsibility to stand watch over one another, we are watchers, all of us, watchers, guarding against the darkness. You've taught me that we're all needed, even those who sometimes think we're worthless, plain, and dull."
- taken from "Watchers"

"If we love and allow ourselves to be loved...well, a person who loves is the most precious thing in the world, worth all the fortunes that ever were."
- taken from "Watchers"

"Although the constant shadow of certain death looms over every day, the pleasures and joys of life can be so fine and deeply affecting that the heart is nearly stilled by astonishment."
- taken from "Watchers"

"...he knew that human lives were free of the chains of fate except in one regard: It was the human destiny to be free."
- taken from "Dark Rivers of the Heart"

"That is...the way of life. The horror changes us, because we can never forget. Cursed with memory. It starts when we're old enough to know what death is and realize that sooner or later we'll lose everyone we love. We're never the same. But somehow we're all right. We go on."
- taken from "Winter Moon"

"How scared (she) had been that night, risking so much for a girl she had never seen. Scared less of (him) than of this new thing that she had found in herself. This reckless caring. And now she knows it is nothing that should have frightened her. It is the purpose for which we exist. This reckless caring."
- taken from "Intensity"

"Forgetting is the start of healing."
- taken from "The Door to December"

MORE OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES

"The long habit of living indisposeth us from dying."
- Sir Tomas Browne

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; while loving someone deeply gives you courage."
- Lao Tzu

"A faithful friend is a strong defence. A faithful friend is the medicine of life."
- Apocrypha

"Courage is the resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear."
- Mark Twain

"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."
- C.G. Jung

"Love alone is capable of uniting living beings in such a way as to complete and fulfill them, for it alone takes them and joins them by what is deepest in themselves."
- Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

"The forces that affect our lives, the influences that mold and shape us, are often like whispers in a distant room, teasingly indistinct, apprehended only with difficulty."
- Charles Dickens

"Goodness speaks in a whisper. Evil shouts."
- A Tibetan proverb

"Goodness shouts. Evil whispers."
- A Balinese proverb

Little thing about my poetry...most of it is dark poetry. About death and about darkness. And if it is not about darkness, it is usually about love. Those are my 2 favorite subjects to write about.

And...let me know what you think about my poetry. I like hearing what people thought about my poems after they read them even if it is bad. So, once you read a poem...please e-mail me and tell me how it was. Thank you.
