Spitfire Spring Specifications

by Bob Sykes via Mike Lindsay

Here's what Thomason has to say about
the front springs. Bear in mind that he's talking about UK
market cars. As you may know the springs are identified by
a small dab of coloured paint on one of the end coils.

Spring length - free (in.) = 12.59
Spring length - fitted (in.) = 7.8 in.
Spring rate (lbf/in.) = 150

Spit 1500
Spring length - free (in.) = ??
Spring length - fitted (in.) = 8.0

The changes correspond to changes in vehicle weight and
different front anti-roll bar diameters. Perhaps some
other factors too.
