Removal of the Metal Cap on Later Spitfire Clutch Slave Cylinders

submitted by Sam Gentry

When overhauling the clutch slave cylinder on later Spitfires, exercise extreme care in removing the metal cap that holds the dust seal. The caps are not always included in repair kits and are not available separately.

This can be done by examining the cap and finding the three indentations located evenly around the edge of the cover.

Using a small thin screwdriver, gently pry the indentations out until the cap is free.

Installation requires that the indentations be again compressed.
