when i bought this car it was a complete snail, but i rebuilt the 4 barrel carbureater and gave it the ususal(plugs, wires, cap, rotor) now it hauls ass. tonight i was coming home from work going about 20 mph when i mashed the throttle. when that big carb opened it completely broke loose the rear tires. the torque this engine puts out is fabulous for burnouts.

I need parts!!! Well, i wanna keep the car when i graduate and fix it up. My Gran Fury has survived two teenage drivers me and my brother. My parents first got this car in 1987 and they have kept it ever since. If i keep this car I would need new interior parts and one new door. My first car! Love it! I picked it up for a song,say 150$! Stock 318 2bbl. was missing horn,parking brake,pass door pull,right rear fender chrome and some rust. I changed the original glove box to a Chronometer from an 82. It was easy to hook up the clock Absoulutly everything works including A/C. Has rust holes on the front fenders and trunk lid. It also could use a new paint jod.

this car is bone stock original with only 31,000 actual miles. my father-in-law is the original owner. he special ordered it with the 318 and a 4-speed overdrive manual trany. it is rust free and still has the original paint on it and looks beautiful. it s black with red pinstripes. it has the red velour interior still in mint condition. this is definately one of the prettiest cars i've ever seen. does anyone else out there have an original Medallion series 2-door 318 4-speed overdrive manual transmission 1978 dodge diplomat?? if so please let me know. i called Chrysler about it and they said it is 1 of 7 Diplomats made that way in 1978! are there any others left in the country?! thanks.

Have any of you seen the P&G or Blue Berry in the scrap book? the P&G was a junk yard resident until I found her and put her through 1 more Minnesota winter.the spring thaw encouraged me to rip the 318 out of P&G and put it in the Blue Berry, after a comp ete overhual with an 'RV' cam and new everything under the 2barrel. This golden charmer has 135000 miles on it and the last 40000 of those have been as a Taxi. The tranny did not like the stop and go ...so it went and the gas mileage is going to leave me broke, but the customers love the comfy seats. She will start and ru at any time and has caused me to return two leased cars because she is much more suited for the 2000 miles plus that I roll up on her in a week.

I just bought this car from a car hustler friend of mine. It's a black 2dr. with a matching halftop. The interior is bright red fabric with a bench seat. The most unusual and my favorite part of this car is that it has a slant six with a four on the floor and never had A/C, Ah a pure machine with just 79k. Fairly straight, mostly showing door dings and a few other random acts of hate. Rust is at a minimum! The former owner took a very clean car and installed a very goofy set of five star chrome hubcaps and a lowrider chicano with the Panama Jack hat sticker on the rear window. In addition to the aforementioned items of bad taste were chrome "69"s on the quarter windows. All of these things have been dealt with however and I am seeking a set of cop car dog b wl hubcaps. This car has a dark and fairly menacing look to it which I plan to enhance! A few years ago I had an'84 Dip' SE sedan with all the gee ha's. This '79 kicks the '84's ass even though it's only got the leaning tower of power slant six. Hope to have pics when I've got it how it belongs.

Another police package. It's an old Evansville, Indiana, Fire Department car and was later used by the city's zoo. We bought it last December for $750. It only has 80K miles and runs great. It's red with a maroon cloth interior. Only problems are the uncomfortable bench seat and poor MPG. It was originally supposed to be our fourth/backup car, but I'm driving it until my 87 gets fixed.

I liked your page. I own a couple of 5th Ave Chryslers. A 1986 with 76357 miles, dark blue with a dark blue leather interior and a wrecked 1987 that I bought for parts. The wrecked one has a nice leather interior also. The amazing thing about the wrecked ne is that the radiator still held antifreeze and the airconditioning still worked even though the front had been mashed pretty good. Other Mopars I Own
I have a 1987 Plymouth Carravelle front driver 2.5 (currently nonrunning) with a recent $1200 tranny replacement, WOW expensive huh!
1965 Dodge D100 stepside pickup 318 BB 4-speed 391 posi rearend.
1974 Dodge D200 slant 6 4-speed with a CHEVY box on it!
I have too many others to mention that are for parts only

I've got a 5th Ave from '88 that I bought last September with 90k on it. It's now got 102k and is still running strong. The only problem that has developed since I bought it is you can't roll down the passenger side window anymore from the driver's spot The A/C hasn't worked as long as I've had the car, but for some reason I don't think it'll be too hard to fix when summer rolls around (or hopefully sooner when I get some money). These are great cars and I recommend one to everyone with a taste for lu ury.

Purchased the Diplomat in September, 1998. Originally priced at $600. but dealer reduced to $400. It is a Diplomat Salon with a 318 2 bbl. The odometer read 16,000 Kms but the dealer did not know if it had run around twice. It is most likely only 116,00 as the car had too many original parts under the hood (it still has the factory installed muffler!). The light blue paint was badly faded on the top surfaces and the left front fender was rusted through, a very common problem on M-bodies in Canada. Car had very recent front rotors, calipers and pads. Required two upper ball joints, one outer tie rod end, rear axle seals, brake shoes, wheel cylinders and front flex hoses to pass safety inspection. Once car was driven, it was discovered that the gas tank had rusted through and it was replaced. Car had complete tune up, hoses and belts replaced and has now gone 25,000 miles (40,000 Kms) more with no other attention other than replacement of the fuel pump.The diplomat hast not once failed to start on even the coldest (-40 degrees) winter morning. The car was originally purchased for a winter beater, but has been used through out the year sometimes going 600 miles per week. The electronic spark control system was disconected and replaced with a vacuum/centrifigal advance distributar and Chrysler O electronic ignition module. This kit is availabe from Chrysler. The car had to be pushed to cruise 70 mph., but with the kit it easily cruises at 90 mph. It is not pretty, not the quietest or most comfortable car around but it is still a pleasure to d ive and it is possibly the best car out of 13 other Ford and G.M. products that I have owned. The only reason that these went out of production is so that people would be forced to buy the smaller fwd vehicles. My only regret is that I did not purchase t new and could now be reaping the benefits of rustproofing and my meticulous maintenace. May purchase rust free unit in U.S. and restore as Sheriff's unit in future. The car has a spotless, almost new light grey crushed velour interior and it is equippe with air conditioning, ps,pb,cruise,lights for the igniton lock, glove box, trunk and a map light built into the dome light and a factory am-fm cassette unit, but not the top line unit according to the owners manual. There is a little rust on the body, ut suprisingly absolutely no dents on the body! Car appears to have been maintained at a minimal level judging by the amount of original parts that should have been changed (hoses, belts, etc)simply due to age. Would not hesistate to take the Diplomat o a trip to any point in Canada/U.S.

I have two (2) LeBarons, an 80 & 81 both are two doors and "night watch blue" thats midnight blue in layman terms. they are almost identical, the 81 I bought first in '97 from a friend's dad, who wasn't ready to sell. so I had to wait till he passed on. a d $1200 later from his son. it has a slant six engine and no balls. but it's in Great condition. It was built with a special order six that didn't live up to expectations. but it was stolen twice and recovered unharmed both times. the thieves have good taste. And for the 81, I found her in the junk yard, someone had gone hrough the windshield and the radiator was wrapped around the water pump, lots of damage. At first I thought someone stole my car again and it was hualed to the yard for impounding. that was July 4 '99. When I bought it two days later it was to be a parts car only, but after some repairs she became my primary vehical. 23mpg hiwy 17city. these two ladies are named PUKE&GAG and BLUEBERRY. ps they've never done police work execpt in recovery. they are beautiful together. As those who have police Dips & Gran Furys know, these were some of the finest American automobiles ever made, and they must be preserved. This evening I rented Basic Instinct, (letterbox version) which has exemplary Dip and Gran Fury footage scene at beg nning, complete with Michael Douglas' arrival to crime scene in copper Gran Fury with correct solid red light on dash. Anyway, ex-Oakland (CA) Police, purchased (after I plowed my '85 into another car on the freeway) with 41K miles on odometer (verified b City of Oakland). 110K miles and many mechanical components later, still running strong and scaring people. Finally got body work, paint job (Antique White), and upholstered/re-built driver's seat with original factory fabric. Next: 360 motor from Swift Dodge, suppliers to CHP.

This one has the full-boat interceptor-go-fast package- 318 c.i.d. V-8 with that damnable GM made 4 barrel carb. Car is white with a cadet blue(not another one!) interior with the most uncomfortable bench seat known to man. Has power mirrors, tilt wheel a d hand idle control. Also has Chrysler's Sure Grip rear end and will go places some new Jeeps fear to tread in the winter snows. My only dislike is the car was built late in the 1989 production season and has an air bag. Don't like them and never will. Ca was used by the Prince George's County Maryland Police Department until 1996. PGCPD still has a few on patrol at this writing!

Quickly approaching 270,000 miles and is still the best running and performing car I've ever owned. Car was originally purchased by the Manassass Park Police Department in northern Virginia. Was retired from plice use in 1989. Prince William County Virgin a then used the car in their motor pool until 1991 when I bought it from a little hole-in-the-wall car dealership. I purchased this car a year ago with 32,000 miles on it for $450.00. The selling price was going to be $600.00 but the car was vandelized by some city brats. The car now has 47,000 miles on it and it runs great. This car never saw any Police use. The city water dept. used it for hauling small tools around and going for those fast lunches.

Here we go again, yet another M-body in the driveway! (3rd to be exact). This one's white with grey interior and black tinted windows. Body is in good shape, but the car runs like shit. For that reason I got it real cheap it'll soon meet up with a 360. Th s car has all the 5th features. Chrysler got even cheaper for '88 and dropped the shaggy carpeting (and somewhere along the line lost the chrome accents on the dashboard) but that'll all change in this one. From the 70's LeBaron to the 80's 5th they lost xtra chrome on the outside of the car and the inside and a few other minor things that are nice. It's too bad that happened (especially when the prices kept going up and up, but it leaves more to modify :)

Saved the car (named grumbles) from the junk yard. Paid 500 bucks for it, in the middle of a snowstorm. Needed a car quick, cause my 1995 mercury sable died for the 20th time. So far I ditched the Sable, and kept the 5th. It has a long way to go with a l the repairs it needs. It has 120k on it, runs good, needs a rear and the electronics ripped out. Right now Grumbles is pretty ugly, but always starts and gets me where I need to go! Working on it. Putting in a regular mechanical carb out of a 69. I w ll keep fixing it untill I can not keep up with the rust. Maybe I will win? Who knows.

Got a good deal on the car, but recently put a new transmission in it. Just put a MP Ignition system and I am still sorting the carburetion out. Will soon put a factory 4bbl and a AFB or Edelbrock clone on it. The car has really good power and is getti g better mileage(though not as good as some other m-bodies I have read about) with the MP Ignition. I will be putting a flowmaster cat back exhaust in soon also. I plan to bracket race next year when I get all the performance mods done.

This car was bought in 1997 from Melton Motors in Wisconsin for $1800. It had 67,000 miles on it. It was originally brown with a beige cloth/vinyl interior, but has since been repainted black. I added wheels from a '70's magnum (slotted cop wheels with silver center caps that resemble modern chevy cop wheels). It now has 90,000 miles on it, and is si ply the best car I've ever owned. I only get about 12-15 mpg city driving, though. I believe a rebuild and a non-gm carb would help that.

Wonderful running car, but front bench seats are very uncomfortable on long trips. Why did Dodge put such cheap seats in such a nice riding car? I get 25 mpg with my 318 engine (automatic) and it handles very well. I bought this car from a 80 year old an in Ashland, WI in 1997 and it had only 16,000 miles on the odometer. I've put another 60,000 miles on it in about 2 years of driving it. I maintain it well and have done some bodywork on it. It's good at least for another 100,000 miles.

The car itself now has 171,000 miles on it. It was at one time a state car in Virginia. It was bought at a auction from a dealer and the person who owned the car before me picked it up in upstate NY. The car is white and has tinted windows. I ahve a kill r stereo system and mag wheels. I also ahve neon lighting. I have been pulled over once for 75 in a 55. The cops just dont let up when they see a retired police car. I sure wish they would. The car has a v-8 318. and let me tell ya she has a lot of power till under the hood. Right now it's in the shop because of elctrical problems but never will I get rid of My mopar powered car. The body is in perfect condition and its a totally awesome vehicle. Things to come are more neon lights and hopefully blue raci g stripes, a sunroof and leather interior with power everything. Buy mopar its definately worth the money.

This is one of the few A38 police package LeBaron's made. I found it in Bernie, MO, for an astonishingly reasonable price. It was used in Wintergarden, FL, to run errands and such. It looks rough (the white paint was flaking and it was primered over), ut it's 318 2V runs great. Restoration should be easy, but finding taillights won't be.

I just bought this car from a local sheriff dept with 92,000 miles on it. It is dark brown with a medium brown vinyl interior. No rust, no damage, and runs great. Just needs a good cleaning from sitting for about a year. Even has a near new set of Goodyea Eagles on it. There are still some in service in the St.Louis area as police cars and taxis. I bought this car in 1994 with 114,000 miles on it. It originally served the Johnson County,Ks, Sheriff Dept. as a prisoner transport car. It is loaded with all options except power seat. My second M-body -- the first was a 1986 Dodge Dipolomat. The one I have now -- a police package -- belonged to the Weathersfield, VT, Police Department. I purchased it from the town, used it as a daily driver for a couple of years, then gave it to my son who used it as a daily driver for another couple of years. When he indicated he planned to get rid of it, I got it back. It currently resides in the garage of my vacation home in PA, awaiting the time I restore it, most likely in the livery of the VT Sta e Police, which used Plymouths until they stopped making them. I think it may be possible my car was the last Chrysler police package sold in VT.

Mine is fully, fully loaded with p/windows, p/trunk, p/door locks, p/antenna, p/seats, automatic dimming rearview mirror, high beam dimmer, and auto headlight on/off.
