LAST PARADE

Today was the day for her last parade,

no balloons, no floats, or elephants gray.
No cotton candy or painted clowns,
no pageant queens wearing crowns.
No smiling spectators in a line,
no twirling batons out of time.
No majorettes or acrobats,
no politicians idle chat.

Our daughter Caseys last parade,
was on a sunny, bright May day.
Five hundred people bid her farewell,
as she went to Gods house forever to dwell.
She was in the lead and we did follow,
down the lane to the tree lined hollow.
The trees bowed down to make the way,
as the wind whispered,"here she'll stay".

We did not want to leave her there,
the scent of flowers everywhere.
Her pastor said the final goodbye,
turned and left with teary eyes.
The crowd mingled and stayed awhile,
paying respects to our youngest child.

It wasn't suppose to end this way,
how can we live another day?
Through eternity still our child,
we will miss her big bright smiles.
We will never hear her laugh again,
or give in to her silly whims.
In our hearts she will always stay,
it wasn't suppose to end this way.

I wrote these for my beloved daughter Casey Lee Melton

I love you eternally,Momma
