Quakers Are Great!!! Meet Corkey....The Singing Wonder Bird!

In my opinion , Quakers are the BEST birds for companion pets . They are pretty inexpesive , they are small (so they don't make a big mess)They are very hardy & friendly birds . Not all Quakers will talk & sing like my Corkey...if you get a bird , love it for who it is , not who you want it to be . As with ANYTHING...you will get of of your Quaker exactly what you put into it !!!
This is Corkey...he is a Quaker or Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus)
Corkey was hatched on March 4, 1993... he came to live with us just after weaning.Corkey said his first word at 3 months....clear as day we heard "HI" since that day he hasn't quit talking !Corkey learned to sing "Happy Birthday Corkey Porkey " soon after that. He loves to sing...one thing he does that is cute...I will say "hey Cork...do you love Rock & roll?" He answers by singing that Joan Jett song...."I Love rock & roll" ( put another dime in the juke box Corkey).Corkey LOVES to sing......some favorites are "My Corkey lies over the Ocean" "Rock a Bye Corkey" "Yummy Yummy Yummy I got love in my Tummy" Phil Collins "I can't Dance" Whitney Houston "I will always love You" The "Bad Boys" song from "Cops" From LambChops sing a long "The Song That Doesn't End"
Corkey can say over 100 words (I stopped counting)...& he can sing 20 songs! Hmmm....he just may be "The Smartest Quaker In The Whole Wide World"
He sings these songs all very clearly & all the way through!
Many people ask how "I" got Corkey to talk so well. My answer is Corkey sings and talks because he likes to ! I treat Corkey like a person & speak to him all the time.
Laying in bed just after waking up I hear Corkey saying "good morning"...then he begins to sing "Good Morning To You" (in the happy Birthday tune).I lay there and listen to his little conversation..."hi , Corkey how are you ? Corkey is the smartest Quaker in the whole wide world....Mommy , Mommy , come here..gimme a kiss (kissy sounds) Thank You !Whatchya doing? Pretty Bird... Thats a good PepperCorn....Mommy..." OK... so I get up after several songs.......when I feed Corkey he says "Thank You" then sings The Yummy Yummy song.All day long he goes on & on & on...when he does "bad" things he will say "Bad Bird...that's funny" (then laugh just like me! When Corkey feels he needs a bath (which is almost anytime the water is on) he says "Wanna take a bath". Probably a favorite thing of his is "Mommy gonna take a bath"...& soon follows with "Corkey , Mommy gotta go to work"After a long day of talking and singing I hear"I am ready to go nite nite" (if I am not fast enough) turning into "I AM READY TO GO NITE NITE"...then in a soft voice he says "nite nite Mommy...as he begins to sing "Rock a Bye Corkey"
You really do get back what you put into these wonderful creatures!!!
