Wills from England

Christiana Broughton, sister of Lt. Gov. Thomas Broughton of South Carolina, had her will written 15 November 1742 and proved 27 April 1743. She was of the parish of St. George the Martyr in the County of Middlesex, England.  She was also the sister of Andrew and Lydia Broughton (below).

Andrew Broughton, brother of Lt. Gov. Thomas Broughton of South Carolina, had his will written 01 June 1704 and proved 24 October 1734. He was also of the parish of St. George the Martyr in Queens Square in the county of Middlesex, England, and was the brother of Christiana Broughton (above) and Lydia Broughton (below).

Lydia Broughton, sister of Lt. Gov. Thomas Broughton of South Carolina, had her will written 20 March 1749 and proved 04 June 1752. Like her brother Andrew and sister Christiana was from the parish of St. George the Martyr.  She and her sister Christiana were both spinsters.
 
 
 

Lt. Governor Thomas Broughton of South Carolina.  The will was written in 1725.  He died in 1738.

Andrew Broughton, son of Lt. Governor Thomas Broughton, had his will written in 1739 with a codecile in 1742.  He died in 1743.

Nathaniel Broughton, son of Lt. Governor Thomas Broughton, had his will written in 1754 and filed in 1755.

Edward Broughton (II), son of Edward Broughotn and Elizabeth Ragin of Sumter District, SC, died May 1852 in Sumter District, SC.

John Cannon, thought to be husband of Jemima Broughton, whose parents were Edward Broughotn and Elizabeth Ragin.  John Cannon died in Sumter District, SC in 1807.  Jemima  re-married a Mr. Runnels and was in Monroe County, AL by 1830.
 

John Henry Broughton, son of Edward Broughton and Elizabeth Ragin of Sumter District, SC, died May 1857 in Greene County, GA.

Records from Alabama and Mississippi

Nathaniel Broughton's will , son of Edward Broughton and Elizabeth Ragin of Sumter District, SC, was filed February 23, 1859, in Monroe County.  His Will was written April 24, 1852 with a codicil dated June 23, 1852.  It was filed in Greene County, MS during the July Term of 1852.  He came from Sumpter District, South Carolina, and resided in Monroe County, but died in Green County, MS in June or July of 1852.

Nathaniel Broughton's Estate probated in Monroe County, AL between 1853 and 1859 from the Order and Inventory Books of Monroe County.

Gemima Runnels' Deed of Gift to daughter(s) Nancy Runnels and/or Flora Nettles and Sally Kearley in 1845 Monroe County, AL.  Gemima is thought to be the sister of Nathaiel Broughton and widow of John Cannon of South Carolina.

This is a transcription of a court case that took place in Monroe County, AL, between 1820 and 1823.  This transcript was introduced as evidence in the court proceedings in Sumpter District, South Carolina, of Nathaniel Broughton vs. Christopher Coulliette in 1830 thru 1836.
