Prayer is the answer to every problem in life. It puts us in tune with divine wisdom which knows how to adjust everything perfectly. So often we do not pray in certain situations because from our standpoint the outlook is hopeless. But nothing is impossible with God. Nothing is so entangled that it cannot be remedied. No human relation is too strained for God to bring about reconciliation and understanding. No habit is so deeply rooted that it cannot be overcome. No one is so weak that they cannot be strong. No one is so ill that they cannot be healed. No mind is so dull that it cannot be make brilliant. Whatever we need or desire, if we trust God, He will supply it. If anything is causing worry or anxiety, let us stop rehearsing the difficulty and trust God for healing, love and power.
- "Review & Herald, October 7, 1865

It is easy for us to be so concerned about truth that we forget the winsomeness of grace. The Lord Jesus came in the flesh and lived among us "full of grace and truth." By His Holy Spirit, He indwells and fill us so that His grace naturally flows out of our lives to others. ... Demonstrating our love for God and for one another makes even the most reserved Christian a dynamic witness who will always make an impact on the world.
- Donald L. Bubna,

"17th Century Nun's Prayer" Part 3 of 4
I dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing humility and a lessing cocksureness when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken.

Do we glory in our infirmities? That is what God is asking of us - to trust Him, to trust His wisdom. We cannot understand, but God in some mysterious way allows us to suffer; and through our suffering He can be glorified.

I knelt to pray when day was done, And prayed, "O Lord, bless everyone,
Lift from each saddened heart the pain, And let the sick be well again."

And then I woke another day, And carelessly went on my way;
The whole day long I did not try, To wipe a tear from any eye.

I did not try to share the load, Of any brother on the road;
I did not even go to see, The sick man, just next door to me.

Yet, once again, when day was done, I prayed, "O Lord, bless everyone."
But as I prayed into my ear, There came a voice that whispered clear:

"Pause no, my son, before you pray; Whom have you tried to bless today?
God's sweetest blessings always go, By hands that serve him here below."

And then I hid my face and cried, "Forgive me, God, I have not tried.
Let me but live another day, And I will live the way I pray."

We see in Simon's carrying the cross a picture of the work of the Church throughout all generations; she is the cross-bearer after Jesus. Mark then, Christian, Jesus does not suffer so as to exclude your suffering.
He bears a cross, not that you may escape it, but that you may endure it. Christ exempts you from sin, but not from sorrow. Remember that, and expect to suffer.
Remember, though Simon had to bear the cross for a very little while, it gave him lasting honor. Even so the cross we carry is only for a little while at most, and then we shall receive the crown, the glory. Surely we should love the cross, and, instead of shrinking from it, count it very dear, when it works out for us "a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."
- Charles Spurgeon "Morning and Evening Daily Readings"

Ridicule is always hard to bear, but when we are in intense pain it is so heartless, so cruel, that it cuts us to the quick. Imagine the Saviour crucified, racked with anguish far beyond all mortal guess, and then picture that motley multitude, all wagging their heads or thrusting out the lip in bitterest contempt of one poor suffering victim!
Surely there must have been something more in the crucified One than they could see, or else such a great and mingled crowd would not unanimously have honored him with such contempt. Was it not evil confessing, in the very moment of its greatest apparent triumph, that after all it could do no more than mock at that victorious goodness which was then reigning on the cross?
- Charles Spurgeon "Morning and Evening Daily Readings"

LORD, PLEASE, WATCH MY TONGUE
Lord, put a watch upon my lips,
Put a guard on what I say:
For Lord I want to live for you
And bless someone today.
For every idle word I speak
When in gossip I take part,
Reveals the kind of man inside,
Hidden deep within my heart.
There's power in my lips today
To heal a heart or break it;
May my tongue with every word it speaks
Please the One Who made it.

The irony is that Jesus died from suffering, in our place, a suffering of which we are incapable. When the Separation happened between the first pair and Creator, they fled. When they had sinned, Adam's and Eve's fear was that of being "with" their Father. When the sin of all their descendants was laid upon Jesus, His fear was that of "not" being with the Father. Because of Their Separation, we can share in Their union.

"Love a man even in his sin, for that is the semblance of Divine Love and is the highest love on earth. Love all God's creation, the whole and every grain of sand of it. Love every leaf, every ray of God's light. Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. Once you perceive it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love. Love animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harass them, don't deprive them of their happiness, don't work against God's intent.
- Fyodor Dostoyevsky, "The Brothers Karamazov" (Shared by Kathy Motyka)
