GEORGE NORWOOD

George Norwood, b ca 1722/25, son of Nathaniel Norwood, is first found named in the will of his grandfather, George Norwood, of Surry Co VA, and Northampton Co NC.  George md Ann, her last name has not been proven, although it is widely believed Ann's maiden name was probably Oglesby.  George Norwood was closely associated with the Oglesby family in NC, having bought land from William Oglesby, Jr.  Jonathan was an Oglesby family name and later, a Jonathan Oglesby was living in Carteret Co NC.  George Norwood's son, William Norwood named a son Jonathan Oglesby Norwood.  George Norwood sold out his holdings in NC and moved to SC by 1773 when he received a Land Grant of 500 acres in Berkeley Co., on the waters of Little River.  Later, that land was in Laurens Co SC.  During the Revolution, little was found on George and Ann Norwood, the exact date of their deaths has not been determined.  The name George Norwood is found on the SC index as having had an inventory of his estate at his death, but the inventory is missing - the date was in the early 1780's.  George and Ann Norwood doubtless had a number of children, but only two can be identified; Nathaniel and William NorwoodNathaniel Norwood was an adult before 1784 when he was administrator of his father's estate as he sold a tract of land.  By 1793,  Nathaniel Norwood had moved to Chester SC and purchased land from Abraham Myers.
