FLOOD GENEALOGY

Col. John Flood died in Surry County in 1658 not long before the marriage of his daughter Mary toJohn Washington.  He was living in June 1658 when he sold to Anthony Holburt a red cow formerly belonging to Eliz. Lother; this sale was witnessed by Thomas Flood.  He was dead, apparently, before Nov. 14, 1658, when Thomas Flood deeded to William Jennings "the tract and houseing, whereon he now lives, which he formerly held by lease from my father Col. John Flood, adjoining John King and sd. Jennings." (Both deeds are recorded on page 131 of "Surry County Records, 1645-1672").  The Grand Assembly held at James City March 7, 1658/9 passed the following resolution: "WHEREAS, Coll. John fflood hath long and faithfully served this country in the office of an interpreter and being now deceased, it is enacted,  That Thomas fflood, son to the said Coll. Jjohn fflood, being recommended to the Assembly for his ability in the Indian tongue, shall be received in the place of his father and have the same salary." (Hening, Vol. I, p. 521).  The will of Col. John Flood has not been found but extracts therefrom are quoted in various recorded deeds.  In 1670 Lt. Col.
