Bunnies and duck at a pond
An Easter Poem

by
Carol Ann Angley ©

Spring has arrived and with it comes,
another holiday,
That fills all kids with wide eyed hopes
of candy, fun and play.

Easter basket Chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and
yellow peeps galore.
No matter what the quantity
they seem to just want more.

churchvolkswagen

Then with new clothes they are adorned.
New dress, new shoes, a bow.
Then into the car with Mom and Dad
and off to church they go.

girl

“Oh look,” they say as they sit down
so carefully in the pew,
“Dolly’s got a great new dress.
Her purse matches her shoe.”

boys in suits “And look at little Joey there.
Doesn’t he look cute?
All dressed like Dad, so dignified,
in his little three piece suit.”

And as the service does begin
the children try so hard
to sit still and behave themselves
later they’ll play in the yard.

Little Suzy starts to sneeze and
Jenny starts to cough.
The incense is so strong today.
Why can’t they shut it off?

And finally it’s time to go.
The priest has said goodbye.
And happy little kids get up
and wish that they could fly.

jar with spilled jelly beans They know what’s waiting home for them
besides their jelly beans.
And they are anxious to begin
their hunts for hidden things.

that kids just don’t really know.
What or why this day has come.
They just want to go.

It’s just another holiday
that seems to come each year.
Which means what to people now?
Maybe nothing, I fear.

again with spring and flowers,
forget the baskets candy full
and all those April Showers.

Christ on the cross

Sit yourself right down somewhere
to think about this day,
and why it means so much to us
and maybe even pray.

And don’t forget all you’ve been told
about that man so great,
who died for you upon the cross.
You know it was His fate.

Because He died on that day
so very long ago,
you have been blessed with love so deep
not given lots of woe.

Angel holding Christ child

With love, our God sent down to us
a baby sweet and fair.
He grew and learned and prayed and taught,
a burden He would bear.

Christ on the cross

Upon that cross that man did die.
He didn’t hesitate.
His heart was full of love for us.
Isn’t that just great?

And as the end was coming near
and darkness started falling,
this man in pain was hanging there.
His God He was calling.

And did He ask His God to help,
to save Him from His pain,
to take Him down from off that cross,
to walk the earth again?

No, not He, not for Himself.
Instead this gentle man,
did pray to God above and asked,
forgive them if you can.

quote from Bible

“They know not what they do,” He said,
as He looked up to the sky.
And as He prayed this heartfelt prayer,
upon the cross He did die.

And so the people gathered there,
back in those olden days,
did think of this as the end of His life,
upon His face no longer to gaze.

But the miracle of this event
did not occur that day.
No one could know what was to come
as they put His body away.

Christ's tomb

Three days after all of this
two women went to take
some oils to anoint Him and
to prepare Him for His wake.

But what did they discover there
deep within his grave?
No body lying deep in death.
Just an empty cave.

They ran away all full of fright.
Their savior now was lost.
Where to go and what to do?
Must find Him at all cost.

Christ with arms outstretched

Then suddenly before their eyes,
they saw their savior there.
He sent them with a message for
twelve men for Him did care.

Those men at first did not believe
they saw their savior there.
But it did not take long to see
that He for them did care.

One day He said, “It’s time to go.
My father He does call.
Please spread the word from God above
to mankind, one and all.”

Because this man did die that day,
for all those people who
had died, did live, were yet to be
He died for me and you,

message about Easter

We have always eternal life.
A gift of greatest love.
Given to us by our God
from oh so far above.

So when this celebration comes
each year to year to year,
hold His love deep within your heart.
The greatest gift so dear.
