The Letter AThe Letter "A" has three sounds... the [short-a] as in antelope, the [long-a] as in ape, and the [third-a] as in aardvark. These are words that begin with the letter "A." You can also hear the three "A" sounds in words that do not begin with "A," but end with an "A" sound, such as the "a" in cat, the "a" in snake, or the "a" in hawk.

C c - - cats
The Letter CThe Letter "C" has two different sounds... the hard sound [hard-c] as in cat - and the soft sound [soft-c] as in ceiling or celebrate. These are words that begin with the letter "C." You can also hear the two "C" sounds in words that do not begin with "C," but end with a "C" sound, such as the "hard c" in back, or the "soft c" in mice.

This is one of the trickiest letters of the alphabet, because there is another alphabet letter that gives exactly the same sound as our "hard C" sound. There is also another alphabet letter that gives the exact same sound as our "soft C" sound.
