It was never determined exactly what caused his death, but it is belived to have been moving into their house too soon after it had been fumigated.

Shortly after his death, a city ordance was approved that a house must be fumigated after a family moves out and another family moves in. But a certain length of time must expire before another family can move in.

Ralph was only seven months old at his death and is buried at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Naruna, Virginia.
