Born: November 2, 1865 at Corsica (Blooming Grove), Ohio.

Education: Graduated from Ohio Central College at Iberia, Ohio.

Occupation: Newspaper editor, politician. Bought the Marion Star in 1884.

Religion: Baptist.

Family life: Married Florence Kling DeWolfe in 1891; she ran the business side of the newspaper. They had no children. She died in Marion on November 21, 1924

Political career: Served in state senate, 1899-1902 and as lieutenant governor; served in United States Senate, 1915-21. Was nominated as "dark horse" candidate in 1920. Administration was corrupt, with many rumored scandals; he died suddenly while on a national tour.

Highlights of his presidency: Convened Washington Disarmament Conference, resulting in treaty. Picked strong cabinet members. Teapot Dome scandal involving others in administration marred his presidency. Died in office.

Appearance: Tall, regarded as handsome, with silver gray hair.

Died: August 2, 1923 in San Francisco, California from a heart attack.

Buried: Harding Memorial in the city of Marion, Ohio.
