History

Rammstein was formed in East Germany in 1994. The guys were all in other bands, and had been friends for a while. Richard was getting bored with his old band and wanted to do something new. Then he got the idea of Rammstein, that combine machines and music. Schneider once said in an interview that the idea was to create monotonous, heavy music, sometimes even boring. One of Richards friends was playing drums in another band, but had also done some singing, so Richard asked him if he wanted to sing in the new band. He didn't want to at first, but after a while he changed his mind, and that was lucky for us fans because, yes it's Till i'm talking about. Flakes joining to the band is another part in the story of Rammstein. He was very difficult to convince. He didn't like the idea of all the dull and roughness in the music. But the guys in Rammstein actually thought that it would be good for the band if the keyboardist was a little bit "against", as a counterweight. As last he changed his mind too and Rammstein was finally entire.
A first they didn't even have a name. They did it more for fun. But when they noticed the success of the song "Rammstein" they started to get serious. They deny takning the name from the plane crasch i Ramstein where 70 people died in 1988. The song "Rammstein" is of course of the catastrophy, but the band says they took their name from something that is called Rammsteine (ramming stones) that is big protective constructions near old gates. Oliver said in an interview that all the bandmembers had relationship problems by them. Either one was left by his girlfriend or he left her, and this not very happy endings gave them this "ramming stone" energy. Who would ever think that anything good could come out of that?
In 1995 they got a record contract with MotorMusic/PolyGram. They produced the album "Herzleleid" in the Polar studio in Stockholm with the producer Jacob Hellner, the singer and producer of the Swedish crossover band Clawfinger. They release the "Du Riescht So Gut" single and shortly after that "Herzleied" is released, and makes a heavy success (more info about the different releases and dates is found in the discography section).
Rammstein started their touring in 1995 with the German band "Project Pitchfork". Shortly after that they support Clawfinger under their conserts in Prauge and Warsaw. In the end of 1995 they go on their first own tour i Germany and the story of Rammstein has just beginned!! What a good work!
Fire has been a part of Rammstein from the very beginning. But it hasn't been very idyllic all the time. They have often got hurt. At first they did all the fireworks by themselves, but once in front of a big audiencet they had an accident when a buring beam fell down. No one got hurt, but after that they hire proffessionals to do the fireworks.
Another thing worth mentioning is that Rammstein makes all their music in German and will continue do so for all eternity, I hope. German is a perfect language for metal music and it makes me very angry when every journalist in the US continues asking them when they are going to start singing in English. What the hell? 99,9% of all bands making a success are singing in English, so why can't they leave Rammstein the way they are?? They've done enough for their English speaking fans alreday by translating "Du Hast" ("You Have") and "Engel" ("Angel") into English. They have also publiced translations to their songs in the albums.
Just in case Rammstein would ever read this: THANK YOU Rammstein for caring about your fans that doesn't speak German, but promise us one thing, please; DO NOT EVER CONSIDER THE THOUGHT OF SINGING IN ENGLISH! That would destroy your music, and you want to continue making the best music in the world right? You're perfectly fine as you are, and I know that 99% of your fans agree with me. Wir liebe Ihr!! (I'm not very good in German)
