Ashtabula (PRONUNCIATION: \,ash-te-'by:u-le\) means "River of Many Fish," or at least that is what we learned in school. (That name may be a bit of a misnomer these days, just ask the EPA, but things are getting better. Then again, according to the Environmental Defense Fund, Ashtabula County is 79th in the nation for release of toxic chemicals.)
