Louis Armstrong

You are listening to Mack the Knife

Louis Armstrong led a long and musical life. He played in many bands including: King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, the Hot Fives, and of course, the All-Stars. He was married 4 times during his life: to Daisy Parker, Lillian Hardin, Alpha Smith, and finally Lucille Wilson. He died in 1971. For a much more complete Biography, see The Louis Armstrong Page. This summmer I had the pleasure of meeting Barrett Deems, a drummer for Louis Armstrong in the fifties. Not only is he a really neat guy, he's an awesome drummer. If you decide to pick up any of Louie's albums, make sure its one with Barrett Deems on the drums. Click here to skip over the lyrics to the links.

Here are some songs that have made Louis Armstrong Popular.

Mack the Knife

Oh the shark has
Pretty teeth dear
And he shows them pearly white
Just a jack knife
As Mack he, dear
And he keeps them outta sight
When the shark bites
With his teeth dear
Scarlett pillows start to spread
And sick loves those
Where's Mack he, dear
So there's not a trace of red
Oh on the sidewalk
Sunday morning
Lies a body
Oozing life
Someone's sneakin'
Round the corner
Is that someone Mack the Knife
From a tugboat
By the river
A cement bay
Drooping down
And the cement's full
Of weight dear,
Now that Mackie's back in town
Louie Miller
Disapeared here
After drawing out all his cash
And Mack he spends
Like a sailor
Did our boy do
Something rash
Suie Totran
Jenny Driver
Sweet Lucy Brown
The line forms on the right, dear
Now that Mackie's back in town

Hello Dolly

Hello Dolly
Hello Dolly
Finally got you back where you belong
You're looking swell, Dolly
I can tell, Dolly
You're still going
You're still growing
You're still going strong
I feel the room swaying
The band playingv Old favorite tunes from way back when
Take a wrap, fellas
Dolly never go away again
I feel the room swaying
The band playing
Old favorite tunes from way back when
Golly gee, fellas
Dolly never go away
Dolly never go away
Dolly never go away again

Blueberry Hill

I found my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
On Blueberry Hill
When I found you
The moon stood still
On Blueberry Hill
And it wasn't until
My dream come true
The wind, the willows played
Love-sweet melody
And all of those vows we made
Were never to be
Though we once thought
You followed me still
Oh you are my thrill
On, yeah
Climb your hill with me baby
We'll see what we should see
I'll bring my arms with me
I'll be with you when the times are blue
Each afternoon we go
Higher then the moon we go
The wind, the willows played
Love-sweet melody
And all of those vows we made
Never to be
Though we once thought
You followed me still
Oh you are my thrill
On, yeah

Cabaret

What good is sittin'
Alone in the room
Come hear the music play
Life is a Cabaret, oh chum
Come to the Cabaret
Put down that knittin'
The book, and the broom
Time for a hallow day
Life is a Cabaret, oh chum
So come to the Cabaret
Come taste the wine,
Come hear the band
Yes its time for celebratin'
Right this way your table's waitin'
No use permittin'
Some prophet of Doom
Wipe all your smiles away
Life is a Cabaret, oh chum
So come to the Cabaret
Come taste the wine
Come hear that band
Yes its time for celebratin'
Right this way your table's waitin'
No use permittin'
Some prophet of Doom
Life is a Cabaret, oh chum
Only a Cabaret, oh chum
So come to the Cabaret.
