Find government publications and contact administrators with your questions. Because special education is a federal mandate, you can get a lot of information from the federal government. Quite often you can get lesson materials, information for teachers and parents, and other stuff from these agencies free.

    The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) supports programs that assist in educating children with special needs, provides for the rehabilitation of youth and adults with disabilities, and supports research to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.

    OSEP's mission and organization focus on the free appropriate public education of children and youth with disabilities from birth through age 21.
