Spot's Mices!

There were some mice in Elise's classroom at school. On weekends and holidays the children took turns taking the mice home. When it was Elise's turn to bring them home, Spot fell in love with them.

Spot is spayed, but she still has her maternal instinct. She gently licked the mice and nuzzled them softly. She let them crawl on her. Then, she spread herself out on her side and pushed them toward her tummy as if they were puppies and she was nursing them!

When Monday came and the mice had to go back to school, Spot was heartbroken. She kept sniffing around where the cage used to be. She sat there all day and sulked. We felt so sorry for her that we got her some mice of her own.

Now Spot recognizes the word, "Mices!" If we ask her, "Do you want to play with your Mices?" her ears perk up and she gets all excited.

Spot loves her mice. It's the highlight of her day when we take the mice out to play. She doesn't try to nurse them as much as she used to, but she still licks them tenderly and lets them crawl all over her. Even when the mice are still inside, she likes to sit next to their cage and watch them.

On Spot's fifth anniversary, November 22, 1997, her mice, Lily and Caramel became the proud parents of eleven cute little baby mice. Thanks to all the wonderful people who adopted the babies! Enjoy your new pets!
