Verses (Poetry?)

Homecoming   28 OCT 1990

He made it.
Finally, the war is over and now he's home.
The ship has just pulled up to the dock.
Everyone, including himself, is running up to the top deck,
many of them with tears in their eyes,
trying to see if they can pick out their loved ones,
waiting for them on the dock
Creating a relieving change of atmosphere,
from the things these men have seen and experienced over the past years,
which will rest in their minds in the form of memories.
Memories of war and blood shed,
dead men that lay motionless on the torn soil,
the cries of suffering,
the frustration that comes with a feeling of insecurity,
the rattling of gunfire,
then BANG!!

He sees her through the crowded deck,
well at least he thinks he does, for she has changed a lot since he last saw her.
Then he sees a young boy standing beside her,
and because of the feeling in his heart,
he knows that it is his wife and his new son,
whom he has never seen before until now,
giving him the strength and will to find his way past all the others to arrive at the plank,
where he begins to run toward his family,
with his medals clenched high above his head, in his fist,
crying,
"I'm home! Oh thank GOD I'm home!"
