Andrew John Griffin's Introduction

[ About Me ] [ My Employment Experience ] [ My Future ] [ Our Next Steps ] [ Contact Info. ]

About Me
I, Andrew John Griffin, am an individual who almost has the working life all figured out. I was once an arrogant electrical engineering student who thought I could do anything, and the university degree would be my insurance. Years later, I have found that I cannot do everything, and more importantly, people really do respond to the manner in which they are treated. Consequently, I have found my own personal limits, and how that they may be stretched by self-motivation and effort, and that people truly want to feel respected and important in life. Thus, I am the key to my own happiness, because it is up to me to do what it takes to meet my goals and it is up to me to help those around me feel comfortable and appreciated so that I may feel the same way, too. The theory is simple, yet exercising it successfully has required that I become a more patient and sensitive person, both with respect to other individuals and work. A self-made happy person makes a strong working employee and team player.

My Employment Experience
Certainly, the most significant portion of my employment experience comes from my student internship with Nortel Networks in OC-48 Customer Networks. During those sixteen months, I had the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of people and personalities, all of whom also had a wide range of skill and knowledge levels. My favorite persons are those who were willing to voluntarily stay after hours to show me what they do and how they do it. In the end, it is very satisfying to know how to do a part of what someone else does, and then be able to teach someone else to do the same. Subsequently, I discovered that what I enjoyed doing the most was testing. I am a person who likes to pick at things, in detail, and who likes races and racing. Therefore, test and verification engineering befits me very well, I believe, since it allows me to set a work agenda before me, and then follow it up by executing it in the most detail that I can in the shortest amount of time possible. I don't want to be responsible for designing a new data protocol or data storage device, but I do want to ensure that something does what is expected from it, from both the design teams' and customers' perspectives. Fortunately, a majority of my internship was spent writing and executing test plans, investigating products defects and deficiencies, setting up lab systems as a captive office prime, and documenting all that I had done.

My Future
In simple terms, my future needs to include a job position. Ideally, I would like to accept a position that overlooks the fact that I have one technical elective and one senior thesis to complete before I may graduate with a bachelor of electrical engineering from the University of New Brunswick. However, I open to any position, including an internship, which will provide me with marketable job skills for a future career in an electrical engineering related field, such as test and verification engineering. This need for a job now is dictated largely by my current financial status. Nevertheless, I do intend on completing my university degree while working, on my own time, as my finances permit me to do so.
