report DOC YSA 2004 Sangrur 1)
DOC A wing of BGVS The present DOC-YSA 2004 Sangrur is an active wing of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti which has been working literacy and scientific awareness campaigns for the last one decade. Some of the member of DOC are associated with Science Teachers Association (Regd.) Pb, some with Education Development forum and some with other progressive social organisation. 2)
Vigyan Rail Participation at Chandigarh Under the banner of Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti Punjab, four delegates from Sangrur. Raj Kumar Garg, Kulwant Singh, Dr. Avtar Singh Dhindsa and Parminder Kumar acted as resource persons for Vigyan Rail at Chandigarh on Dec. 21,22,23, -2004. 3)
TOV National workshop-New Delhi On the direction of Dr. P.L. Garg state coordinator BGVS Pb. & Chandigarh five members of DOC. Raj Kumar Garg, Dr. Avtar Singh Dhindsa, Kulwant Singh, Vijay Kumar Garg, Darshan Singh Nargri attended the National Workshop on Transit of Venus 2004 at New Delhi organized by AIPSN/BGVS on 27-28-29th March, 2004. 4)
Formation of DOC YSA-2004 An extended meeting of BGVS volunteers of Sangrur District was called on 8-4-04 at Mandir Shri Naina Devi Sangrur. Dr. P. L. Garg Chaired the meeting. Scientific awareness Campaigns were discussed at large. The DOC YSA 2004 Sangrur was constituted formally as under:

TOV Programme-Dhuri The DOC held its first TOV-2004 Programme at Chambridge High School Dhuri (Sangrur) (A Reputed Enlgish Medium School) Lectrues on YSA activities and demonstration on TOV and other sun-Activates was given. The students and teachers took keen interest. Punjab Today TV News Channel telecasted the above programme on April 16, 2004. 6)
Participation TOV workshop at Shimla One active member of DOC, Dr. Avtar Singh Dhindsa a participated in the TOV workshop held at Shimla on May 2-3/2004. 7) DOC held its meetings from time to time for planning and execution of YSA activities. Pamphlets and other printed material produced by State as well as national level was distributed to the people and discussed with them regarding YSA 2004. 8)
Participation in State Level Workshop on TOV Nine Members of DOC attended one day State level workshop on TOV-2004 organised by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology at Chandigarh on 18.5.2004. These members thanked Dr. Neelam Gulati Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, PSCST, Chandigarh for giving one telescope to Principal G.S.S.S. Kauhrian (Sangrur) (Also Distt. Project Coordinator YSA 2004 Sangrur). Since then the teleschope is utilized by DOC helping people in sky watching. 9) The DOC organized 27 TOV Programmes in different schools (Govt./Private) and Social Groups. The DOC members in different groups demonstrated. The TOV-2004 happening to make standards well aware of the celestial event so that they may observe and watch it with safe methods. Myths and legends associated with such celestial happening were also discussed and explained with them. 10) One such TOV-2004 programme was held at Dhuri on June 1, 2004 on the premises of Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir where 180 Shishu adhyapkas from five different states were getting training in science teaching. This programme was also covered by Punjab Today TV News Channel on June 3, 2004. 11) A District level TOV festival was organized on June 8, 2004 at Prem Sabha Senior Sec. School Sangrur. Dr. Neelam Gulati Sharma principal Scientific officer PSCST Chandigarh was the Chief Guest. Sub divisional magistrate Sangrur Sh. Gurtej Singh attended the function as a special Guest. 12)
Participation in State workshop at Kotakpoora 17 delegates from the district participated in the state level workshop-YSA-2004 at Kotakpoora (Faridhkot) from June 19 to June 22, 2004. All the six major areas of YSA were discussed at large in this four day residential workshop. The DOC volunteers enriched their knowledge about. YSA activities and Science popularization with the lectures of National as well as state level eminent resource persons. In this workshop the DOC Sangrur submitted its future action plan on YSA activity to the State Organizing Committee. 13)
District Level YSA Workshop-July 20, 2004 On the lines of action plan chalked at the Kotakpoora YSA workshop, the DOC organized a District level workshop on July 20, 2004 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at Prem Sabha Senior Sec. School Sangrur. Dr. P. L. Garg was present as Chief Guest. 76 school teachers (10-15 per tehsil) from all the six tehsils participated Dy. Distt. Education Officer (Sangrur) Sh. Jaginder Singh, D.S.S. Sangrur, Sh. Barjinder Pal Singh a representative of Pt. Dhan Raj Welfare Society Benra (NGO), Sh. Surjit Talwar Rationalist Society Punjab (NGO) also attended the function. 14)
Vigyan Rail Yatra-Jallandhar The DOC also managed to send 14 Buses of students, teachers and other peoples to see Vigyan Rail exhibition on Aug 11 to 12, 2004 to Jallandhar which is 150 km from Sangrur on August 12, Sh. Gurtej Singh SDM Sangrur flagged fleet of buses at 6.30 a.m. from the residential complex of Deputy commissioner Sangrur. All the DOC members visited Vigyan Rail at Jallandhar on August 12, 2004 alongwith this caravan. Dr. Maghar Singh D.E.O. (S) Sangrur especially attended the flag off ceremony. The DOC has been able to establish a good report with district administration. The ADC (D) in consultation with DOC has created a separate YSA cell in his office to coordinate YSA Activities. As suggested by DOC, he has issued instructions to all the Executive Officers of Municipal Committee/Nagar Councils, 12 BDPOS, 2 General Manager PRTC Barnala and Sangrur Depot for wall writing of YSA slogans at the proper public places in urban as well as rural areas. The DOC noticed its implementation and is satisfied with District Administration coordination. District Education Authorities are extending full cooperation to DOC.
