The fifth child of former advertising executive Ruben David and his wife, Paciencia, David-Blackeby recently took out a "Highly Commended" award in the "Best Editorial Issues Campaign of the Year 1997" category of the Australian Business Publishers' prestigious Bell Awards.

This award recognizes excellence in an editorial campaign that achieved maximum impact among readers of the public at large.

David-Blackeby's campaign concentrated on smart card technology.

What makes the award special is that votes are cast by business and high technology journalists, and for David-Blackeby to win a commendation is a recognition of her expertise gained from her Filipino training and experience.

David-Blackeby, who graduated from the UP Institute of Mass Communications in 1980, is currently associate editor of Electronics News of Reed Business Information in Sydney. She has also been named editor of Cards Asia Pacific, a smart card technology magazine slated to be launched next year.
