ISSRL - Norisring - Round 20
Round 20 of the ISSRL Downunder League kicked off at the fast Norisring Circuit. Fast man in Qualifying was Daniel Wood with a quick 48.8 sec lap. On Grid two we saw TWM's Shane Challis followed by the new series leader Brett Stone on three. Rounding out the top four qualifiers was another one of TWM's drivers, Jeremy Downie. Our other team members started on grid eleven (Wayne Glanville) & grid eighteen (Jason Dellaway).
From the drop of the green flag it was apparent that this was going to be a war of attrition. with the track being relatively short & very fast, some damage & race incidents were highly likely. Here we see Daniel Wood leading the field into turn one, closely followed by Shane Challis & Brett Stone. Jeremy Downie has fourth pinned down with the Saker Motorsports pairing of David Turnbull & Brett Young snapping at his heels.p of the green it was clear that
The first major casualties of the nights racing were Jeremy Downie & David Turnbull on lap one. With Jeremy Downie touching the inside wall gojng through the esses, David Turnbull had nowhere to go & ended spinning them both out resulting in a nasty crash. The end result was an over the wall flip for Dave with Jeremy doing major damage on the tyre wall. It was a devastating blow for the series leader but one which most drivers have endured at some stage during the season. I'm sure we will see him back next week with fire in his belly.
At the end of the day it was a good showing by Team Wasp Motorsports. Our four representatives done us proud with the following results:

2nd.....Shane Challis
7th.....Wayne Glanville
16th.....Jason Dellaway
17th...Jeremy Downie

Great work & well done guys. I'll see you all on the track for Round 21 at Infineon raceway.

Cheers,

Below we see another incident early on in the race. After getting it wrong exiting turn one, Arran Foster was spun by a fast approaching Pat Lynch. Luckily, TWM's Wayne Glanville managed to avoid the carnage. The question remains though, would his luck continue..............
After escaping this incident, TWM's Wayne Glanville managed to pass two drivers within the next couple of turns. All this was then undone by an over zealous Nathan Smith who punted Wayne Glanville on the final left-hand sweeper before home. Bad luck bro.
Here we see TWM teammates, Jason Dellaway & Shane Challis make contact after a silly miscalculation. In third place at the time, Shane Challis was focused on chasing down the hard charging second placed Brett Stone. I'm still not exactly sure what happened but my 'theory' is that Jason Dellaway slowed to let me past and I didn't realize till I was right on top of him. Sorry bud about all the confusion and the resulting mess.
Here we see after seventy five laps of intense racing, TWM's Shane Challis edge out Brett Stone for Second Place by a mere 1/5th of a second. The battle between these two raged for at least forty laps. It certainly wasn't without its moments and the main one in particular was the major slide Shane had on the corner just before crossing to take Second. I must say my heart was in my mouth as I watched the looming shape of the formidable Brett Stone piloted GT40 fill my rearview mirror. All in all though, happy with the final result.
Once again, our flying friend Daniel Wood from Torbay in Auckland proved that he had too much by winning his ninth round of the season. Well done Daniel, you are proving week in & week out that you have exceptional ability in what seems all forms of simulation racing - be it roadcourses or ovals. Great work.
