Spot Billing is the process of taking the Electric Meter Reading and Print the bill to the customer at the spot. A separate device called Simputer and a portable printer were used to get the reading and print the bills. This software was made for Bhutan Power Corporation(BPC). There was two part of the software.
One is stand alone which runs at the BPC head quarters. It prepares the data for taking the meter reading and printing the bills. This part of the software also used to load the prepared blank database to the Simputer and dump the meter reading details from the Simputers back to the database kept at the BPC Head Quarters.
The other part of the software was for the Simputer. It was a binary exe file which is loaded to the Simputers with the help of the stand alone software which runs at the BPC head quarters. This software stores all the details of a customer and the meter readings in a portable databade called "SQLite DB" loaded into the Simputer. When all the details are collected, the entire data is transferred to the BPC Head Quartes database by simply connecting the simputer with the computer where the standalone counterpart ofthe software runs, by USB port through the help of the standalone software itself.
The standalone part of the software was made by Java Swing in the frontend and Oracle 8i at the backend. The connectivity from the frontend with the backend was done by using JDBC. All the business logics were implemented by using Core Java.
The part of the software which runs in the Simputer was made using C, C++ and the Operating System in the Simputer was Linux.
Software and Platform

Client: Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC), Bhutan.
Back End Database
          Oracle 8i, SQLite
Roles
I had worked as the key developer of the Standalone part of the software which includes the frontend design in Java Swing, writing business logics in Core Java. I had written the codes for generating Bar Codes from the Consumer Numbers, Logging every activities in the software using log4j utility and the FTP utility to transfer data from the standalone machine to the Simputer.
