Members' Rehearsal, Concert & Event Schedule - 2003-2004 Season - Historical Record
Unless otherwise noted, there are rehearsals every Friday at 8 pm, August 22 through mid-June. Music will be distributed at rehearsals. (Last update: December 22, 2003.)

  • Fridays beginning August 22, 2003 8 pm -- Rehearsals at Concord Clubhouse with conductor Dr. Michael O'Brien. The Concord Clubhouse is located at 2434 Wisconsin Avenue, NW (above the Old Europe Restaurant).

  • Saturday, November 22, 2003 8 pm, Washington Saengerbund Fall Concert and Dance. Deutsche Messe by Schubert with traditional instrumental accompaniment and music by other composers. Call for Singers -- 6 pm. Concert dress: (men) WSB jackets, gray slacks, tie in gold and red hues (Garcia design); (women) solid autumn-leaves color long-sleeved blouse, long black skirt, black shoes. Held at the St. Catherine Labouré Church's social hall (Claridge Room), located at 11801 Claridge Road, Wheaton, MD (off Viers Mill Road, between Georgia and Connecticut Avenues). MAP. Lysle Sexton's Orchestra will play for the dance after the concert, beginning about 9 pm until midnight. Advance reservations required. Tickets are $20 in advance from Mrs. Mary Stradley, 10134 Mosby Woods Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030; 703-591-1640. Ticket price includes soft drinks, mixers, setups, chips, pretzels, cheese and crackers; following the concert, coffee and cake will be served. BYOB (bring your own beer, wine, or bottle). The fall concert featured music by Schubert.

  • Sunday, December 7, 2003, 5 pm, Washington Sängerbund Christmas Concert at the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Lovettsville, VA. MAP Concert dress: (men) WSB jackets, gray slacks, tie in blue hues (Garcia design); (women) white long-sleeved blouse, long black skirt, black shoes. Wreath pins.Singers meet at church at 2:30 pm. Program includes Schubert's Deutsche Messe with organ accompaniment and German Christmas music. Dr. Michael O'Brien, conductor; Robert I. Jones, organist. Suggested donation $15. Reception follows concert.
    Directions: Starting in Maryland, Directions from Interstates 70, 81, 15 and 270 : Proceed on I 270 until you arrive at Frederick ; Take I 70 towards Hagerstown; Go to right lane for exit for 15S/340W towards Charles Town (Harpers Ferry) and Leesburg; Follow 15S/340 towards Leesburg/Charles Town; After approximately 5 miles, take Route 15S towards Leesburg (340 continues towards Charles Town); Cross the 15S bridge (it's painted blue) into Virginia; Take the first right hand turn onto Lovettsville Road (Route 672); Follow Lovettsville Road (about 5 miles) up to a stop sign. There will be a 7/11 mart on your right and the Lovettsville Post Office on your left. You are in Lovettsville.
    From DC and Virginia: From the Washington Beltway, take the Dulles Toll Road and then the Dulles Greenway (toll) past Dulles Airport. Go all the way to the end of the Greenway (you will be in Leesburg). (Alternatively, you can take Route 7 all the way to Leesburg and avoid the tolls, but you'll have lots of lights.) Bear right onto Route 15 North. You will go through the town of Lucketts. Approximately 4 miles past Lucketts you will pass an Amoco fast mart on the left. One mile past that you will turn left on Lovettsville Road (Route 672). Go 5 miles and you will be in Lovettsville. The church, one of only two churches in Lovettsville, is located at the south entrance to the town; its steeple is visible from far.

  • Sunday, December 14, 2003 3 pm, Washington Saengerbund Christmas Concert at the United Church, 20th and G Streets, NW, Washington, DC. Concert dress: (men) WSB jackets, gray slacks, tie in blue hues (Garcia design); (women) white long-sleeved blouse, long black skirt, black shoes. Singers meet at church at 1 pm. An offering is taken to help the needy. Following the concert, refreshments are served in the church basement social hall. Musicians from the Alte Kameraden will join us in this concert.

  • Friday, January 2, 2004, 8 pm - rehearsals begin for 2004. Begin in February to collect singers' music suggestions for next concerts.

  • Saturday, February 21, 2004, 7 pm - midnight - Faschingsball at the beautiful grand ballroom in Fairfax. (Follow link for the flyer.)

  • Fridays, March 12 & 19, 8 pm - rehearsals begin with the Christmas music for our CD recording on March 20, followed by music for concerts.

  • Sunday, March 14 - NOSB Music Committee meeting in Lancaster, in preparation for the 2006 NOSB Saengerfest. Details to be announced.

  • Saturday, March 20, morning and afternoon - joint rehearsal with Alte Kameraden and recording for Christmas music CD, Fairfax

  • Sunday, April 18, 5:30 - Spring Concert of the Washington Sängerbund , Michael O'Brien, conductor) with the Delaware Saengerbund (Robert Bunnell, conductor) as our guests. Held at the National Building Museum, 401 F Street, NW, Washington, DC, and followed by a reception with European pastries, German wine and cheese, soft drinks available. This concert is presented in cooperation with the National Portrait Gallery and the National Building Museum as part of the Great Hall Concerts in Partnership Series. Tickets: Mary Stradley, 703-591-1640. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Special price for National Building Museum members. Tentative program: TBA

  • May 1, 2004 time TBA - Spring Concert of the Delaware Saengerbund with guest the Washington Sängerbund. Other details to be announced. Partial program (tentative):
